Updated the drivers, both AMD and NVIDIA but nothing seems to work. 

This is the exact model I bought and it clearly says 144hz in the title and specifications but its capped at 60hz.

Do you mean internal or external screen ? For internal, You can use System > Display to find out

I meant my internal laptop display but yeah, I can only choose between 40 and 60hz
