I've done as you requested just as you pointed out in your message but still everything remains the same.I'm thinking it's more of a software than a hardware issue. My last but one attempt to remedy this situation would be to do a complete windows update before I do a a reinstall of OS which I've done once already I hope HP has a simple way to solve this problem because an OS reinstall seems out of the question ,let me know what you think.regards

You've already reinstalled Windows and that did not solve the issue?

If this is true, there wouldnt be any Windows updates needed just to get the brightness slider to work. When I only used the existing Windows generic driver, I could still change resolution and brightness.

I think you should contact Support directly for warranty help. If reinstalling didnt work, logic points me to hardware.
