Hello sir, I have a really big issue with my laptop and I've tried to solve it but it doesn't work. Here is the problem: I turn on my laptop and it works perfectly fine, after 2-3 minutes it freezes and then I have to shut it down manually using the power button since it's just frozen and I've tried all shortcuts to unfreeze it but didn't work. Then when I turn it back on, the caps led flashes 5 long and 3 short. What I've done: I've opened the laptop, removed the batter from the laptop, hold power button for 15 seconds and plug the AC adapter in and turn it on and it worked but then same issue occured, so i figured this isn't the battery issue. I've then resit the RAM and that didn't work, I removed one of the RAM to see if it was the RAM issue and it didn't work and I did the same with the other RAM. I also tried with a working RAM and still didn't work.

Hi @YashDaSavage,

Thank you for the details.

I understand your laptop freezes after a few minutes of use and then shows 5 long and 3 short Caps Lock blinks, even after you’ve tried battery, RAM, and power reset steps. Let’s go through a few checks to identify what might be causing this.

1. Understand the Blink Code
The 5 long and 3 short Caps Lock blinks indicate a system board (motherboard) or embedded controller failure. This means a component on the motherboard is not responding correctly.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery (if removable).

Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds to drain any residual power.

Reconnect the adapter (leave the battery out for now) and try to power on.

Check if the laptop still freezes or shows the same blink code.

3. Test with Minimal Hardware

Remove any non-essential devices (USB drives, external keyboard/mouse, etc.).

If your laptop has two RAM sticks, try booting with only one installed at a time.

If available, try the RAM sticks in different slots to rule out a faulty slot.

4. Inspect for Overheating or Dust

Ensure the vents and fan are not clogged with dust. Overheating can cause freezes before the blink error appears.

Clean the vents carefully using compressed air and ensure the fan spins freely.

5. Reset the BIOS

Power off the laptop.

Hold Windows + V and press the Power button for 3–5 seconds, then release both keys when you see the BIOS reset message.

If prompted, confirm to reset BIOS defaults.

6. Update BIOS (if possible)

If the system boots normally for a short time, quickly check your current BIOS version.

Visit HP’s official support site on another device and download the latest BIOS update for your exact model.

Apply the update only if the laptop remains stable long enough to complete it.

I hope this helps.
