Hello Everyone,

I have an HP OMEN 15ce071tx, so it is not showing any screen but turns on and shows 5 long and 3 short blinks on the caps lock. I tried searching it up on Google, and it shows that "the Embedded Controller can't reach the BIOS."

So I tried solutions like a hard reset, which didn't work, and removing one RAM stick, which didn't work.Tried flashing BIOS by pendrive; it doesn't work.

And also the left fan is spinning, but the right one will spin for a few seconds and then stop. I think it's an EC chip problem, and I think it needs to be replaced, and also my particular model is now out of life support, so HP can't help much.

Can anyone give any solution, or should I take it to a technician?

Hi @FLUX_17,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OMEN 15-ce071tx powers on with no display and shows a Caps Lock blink code of 5 long and 3 short, indicating a failure between the Embedded Controller (EC) and the BIOS. Let’s go through the remaining checks to confirm the cause and next steps.

Confirm the blink code meaning

On HP OMEN systems, 5 long + 3 short indicates BIOS/EC communication failure.

This occurs when the EC cannot initialize or read the system BIOS.

Rule out power-related causes

Disconnect AC adapter and battery (if removable).

Hold the power button for 30–40 seconds.

Reconnect only the AC adapter and attempt to power on.

Minimal hardware test

Remove all RAM sticks.

Power on the system with no RAM installed.

If the blink pattern remains unchanged, the issue is not memory-related.

BIOS recovery attempt (already tried, but validating outcome)

BIOS recovery via USB only works if the EC can partially initialize.

Since there is no display and the blink code persists, this strongly suggests recovery is not being triggered at all.

Fan behavior confirmation

One fan spinning continuously while the other stops is common when the EC fails to complete POST.

This behavior supports an EC or BIOS chip-level fault, not a thermal or fan issue.

Why software fixes won’t work

Hard reset, RAM reseat, CMOS drain, and BIOS flash require a functioning EC.

When the EC cannot communicate with the BIOS, no firmware-based fix can complete.

I hope this helps.

Hey,

Thank you for the response

I have tried all the methods which you recommended, but the problem still persists

But I contacted  HP Service Center and they are gonna diagnose my laptop at my home, and probably gonna pick up my laptop for motherboard repair. I hope they can fix it

and again thank you for you’re response

Hi,

You’re welcome, and thank you for the update.

Based on everything you described and the troubleshooting you already completed, you did all the right steps. The Caps Lock 5 long / 3 short blink code on the OMEN 15-ce071tx, combined with no display, failed BIOS recovery, and the fan behavior you observed, does strongly point to a motherboard-level issue involving the EC/BIOS circuitry. At that stage, there isn’t any additional end-user troubleshooting that would realistically resolve it.

Hey,

So an employee picked up my laptop for diagnosis, After three days, I contacted the HP Service Center, and they told me that the motherboard is not repairable and needs replacement, which cost me a lot to invest in this old laptop. So I am thinking of selling this or exchanging it (if I can) and buying a new laptop.

I think this is the end of our conversation.

And thank you for your response, and support.
