Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding OMEN by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your OMEN by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop is experiencing an issue where it charges when powered off but stops charging when turned on. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

Basic Checks

  • Try a Different Power Outlet: Ensure the socket is providing stable power.
  • Check for Loose Connections: Make sure the charger is properly connected to both the power outlet and the laptop.
  • Inspect the Charger and Port: Look for any damage to the charging port or the adapter.

Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Power off the laptop.
  2. Unplug the charger and remove any external peripherals.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
  4. Plug in the charger and turn on the laptop.

Update BIOS and Drivers

  1. Update BIOS:
    • Go to HP’s official support website and check for the latest BIOS update for your model.
    • Follow the instructions carefully to install it.
  2. Update Battery and Power Drivers:
    • Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
    • Expand Batteries and Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
    • Right-click Microsoft AC Adapter and Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, then select Update driver.
    • Restart your laptop.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Turn it back on and immediately press F2 repeatedly to open HP Hardware Diagnostics.
  3. Run the Battery Test and AC Adapter Test.
  4. If any errors appear, note them down and check HP’s support site for solutions.

Check Windows Power Settings

  1. Open Control Panel > Power Options.
  2. Click Change plan settings for your current plan.
  3. Select Change advanced power settings.
  4. Expand Battery and Plugged in Settings, and ensure nothing is preventing charging.

Test with a Different Charger

  • If possible, use another compatible HP charger to rule out a faulty adapter.

Check for Windows Updates

  1. Open Settings (Win + I).
  2. Go to Windows Update and install any pending updates.

Let me know if you need further clarification! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
