Hi,

I have a Victus HP Gaming Laptop 15.

Up until now, the battery has been working fine, charging until 95%. After Windows 11 updated yesterday, the battery does not charge past 1%. Before that happened, when using the laptop, it suddenly shut down at one point and the message "BIOS has detected that the capacity if the internal battery has been reduced.  This may caused due to environmental factors such as low ambient operating temperature, or it would be due to aging of the battery pack.  Operating your system in a warmer location or operating your unit for a while might resolve this condition."  appeared on start up. Now whenever I unplugged the charger, my laptop will instantly shut down.

After running systems diagnostics (HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI) for battery, it showed PASSED for AD Adapter Test but NOT INSTALLED for Battery test and the Logic State is Not Available (FF), Charge State - Not Available.  Here is the Battery Report for the last two days.

I have tried various troubleshooting methods online (such as hard reset, reinstalling drivers) but none of them work.

Hi @iamsh

Thank you for responding.

I understand that the issue is not resolved even after performing the BIOS recovery, However This seems like a hardware issue and it will need a repair, I would request you to contact the nearest service center for assistance, if the device is out of warranty, it may incur charges: https://support.hp.com/in-en/help/service-center

Have a good day.

Hi @iamsh

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you're experiencing an issue with the battery. Based on the information you've shared, it appears that the internal battery or its Battery Management System (BMS) has likely failed. The BIOS warning, the HP UEFI Diagnostics reporting the battery as "Not Installed" with "Not Available (FF)", and the laptop shutting down immediately when the AC adapter is disconnected all indicate a hardware-related issue rather than a Windows 11 software issue. However, I would request you to please perform the below steps

Verify the AC adapter

Although the adapter test passed:

  • Confirm you're using the original HP charger.
  • Ensure the charging LED behaves normally.
  • Check for damage to the cable or connector.

Perform an Power Drain.

  • Shut down the laptop.
  • Disconnect the charger.
  • Hold the Power button for 30–60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the charger.
  • Turn the laptop on.

If the battery is detected afterward, the issue was with the EC. If not, continue.

Check Battery Report

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:
  • powercfg /batteryreport
  • Open the generated HTML report.
  • If it shows:
  • Design Capacity = 0
  • Full Charge Capacity = 0
  • No battery installed
  • the battery is no longer recognized.

Please revert with the results.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

The charger that I am using is indeed the one from HP. The LED of my laptop is blinking red when connected to the charger, which I assume is due to the battery issue. Performing power drain also didn't help. The LED did turn white for about 30 seconds until it reverts to its blinking state. The BIOS warning also keeps appearing after start up. Now, the battery is shown to be stuck charging at 0% instead of 1%

Hi @iamsh

Thank you for responding.

Based on the battery report,Ther battery design capacity (17,140 mWh) matches the full charge capacity (17,140 mWh), which indicates that the battery itself does not appear to have significant wear. However, the fact that the battery is stuck at 0% while charging, the charging LED is blinking red, and you continue to receive a BIOS battery warning suggests that the system is detecting a battery charging or communication issue rather than normal battery degradation.

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (Battery Test):

  • Turn off the notebook.
  • Power it on and immediately tap Esc repeatedly.
  • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Run the Battery Test and note the result.

BIOS recovery.
Power off the laptop.

Have a good day.

Hello.

Thank you for your reply.

I ran the battery test first as you suggested and it showed me that the battery is not installed, like before. General power test also indicated the battery is not installed and "Primary: Logic State - Not Available (FF), Charge State - Not Available"

I had high hopes after successfully recovering BIOS, but the BIOS warning appeared again during start up. Ran the battery test again and it still shows no battery is installed.
