Hi!

So, I've had this computer for quite some time now, but only recently have I been having this issue. It used to run just fine, but now, whenever I play a game plugged in, the temperature of my GPU slowly climbs from 70c up to 95c, which it then starts to throttle my computer to the point of shutdown. I've taken the casing off my computer and cleaned out the fans, but it barely did anything at all. I even have a cooling pad, but also it does nothing to stop it. It only occurs when I'm plugged in, I can play any 3D game just fine for about an hour or so unplugged before my computer dies. What should I do about this? It's been happening for about two months now, and is starting to get a bit unbearable.

Thanks in advanced for the help! 🙂

Hello @tolbachik

In your case:

- The notebook should normally be disassembled and checked

- Thermal paste for CPU GPU and bridges should be renewed.

- Furthermore, the function of the fan must be checked.

- General cleaning ...

If you can't do that, you should have it serviced by a professional notebook repair store.

best regards

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Firstly, change the video display settings to match the minimum display requirements for the game.

  1. Right-click an open space of the Windows desktop (not on an icon), and then click Display settings.
  2. Change the resolution to match the game’s recommended display settings. Recommended display settings can be found using an online search.
  3. Click OK to accept the change.
  4. If prompted, accept the new settings. The display reverts to the prior settings if the changes are not accepted.
  5. If prompted, select the option to restart the computer, and then try playing the game again.

For more information on how to display settings that can affect performance, go to Improving Video Game Performance or FPS (Windows 10).

And, also run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hello!

Thanks or taking the time to reply to this and help me out, I really appreciate it! Unfortunately, after trying both and updating my drivers, the problem still remains. Any game with 3D graphics I play plugged in pushes my PC to the point where it turns off from the heat, reaching over 95C. Again, unplugged is just fine, for some strange reason. Could it be that I have to replace the battery or the charger, maybe?

Thanks again for the help, I appreciate it! Hope you're having a good day! 🙂

Hi!

Just got done reapplying thermal paste and cleaning, and wow what a difference. Took some trial and error since this was my first time doing it, but I feel like my problem is finally solved. All it really needed was a deep clean and for that to be fixed, so thank you both for your help!

Have a wonderful rest of your week! 🙂
