Hi there,

I am confused about the exact speed of RAM my laptop has. The product page (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06703616/) lists: 8 GB DDR4-2933 SDRAM (1 x 8 GB)

HP Support Assistant shows:

Memory slot 1: 8GB SK Hynix 3200MHz

Windows also shows 2933MHz.

Following the product page, I bought and installed HyperX Impact 8GB DDR4 2933MHz CL17 (HX429S17IB28) and the system shows a total of 16GB but with max clock speed of 2400 MHz.

Have I bought a wrong type of RAM?

@Nemchuk

Its specs

You can install higher speed RAM but machine will run at 2933MHz as indicated. In this case, 3200MHz RAM may be cheaper than 2933MHz RAM therefore your machine has 3200MHz RAM.

Regards.

Thank you for the answer.

Can you please also help with the 2nd part of my question?

I have 8GB SK Hynix 3200MHz (factory) and HyperX Impact 8GB DDR4 2933MH added, why the system runs at 2400? Shouldn't it then be 2933?

Thank you.16gb.PNG

I think it might have to do with XMP. Does anyone know how to switch it on? Can only find basic menu in bios.
