Now i have been having this problem for a while. My laptop cooling is really weird. Basically when I am doing things on the laptop and it gets warm fans start working right everything is normal but then randomly they stop working 0rpm then CPU goes to like 100 degrees and then fans come back again then randomly they shut off for a second and then they come back again and in the end they shut off and don't work at all. All the graphics card drivers are updated through the AMD software and Omen gaming hub is also up to date. I have tried to set the fans manually as well but when they shut off nothing works any more and the laptop over heats and just shuts off. Hope you can help me.
All the best

Hi @Kermo
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
That sounds like a serious cooling control issue—and you’ve already done a great job updating drivers and trying manual fan control. The fact that your fans drop to 0 RPM intermittently and then stop completely suggests a deeper problem with either the thermal management firmware, fan controller, or even a hardware fault in the fan system itself.
Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the fan problem:
Update BIOS and Drivers:
- Ensure that your BIOS and system drivers are up to date. Visit the HP Support website and check for the latest updates for your specific laptop model.
- Updating the BIOS might include improvements to thermal management and fan control.
Check HP OMEN Command Center:
- Open the HP OMEN Command Center and ensure that fan settings are appropriately configured.
- Use the OMEN Gaming Hub to monitor the fan speed and temperatures in real time.
Check Power Settings:
- Go to Windows "Power & Sleep Settings," then "Additional power settings."
- Check if the "High performance" power plan is selected, which can help ensure the fans are being used effectively.
Inspect Laptop Vents:
- Check the air vents for dust or obstructions that might be impeding airflow.
- Use compressed air to carefully clean dust from the vents and fans.
Run HP Diagnostics:
- Use the HP Hardware Diagnostics tool to perform a system check and see if it identifies any issues with the cooling system.
Check for Firmware or Software Interference:
- Sometimes, third-party software might interfere with fan performance. Consider disabling or uninstalling any recently added software that could impact CPU performance or cooling.
Consider Using a Cooling Pad:
- As a temporary solution, you might use an external cooling pad to help maintain lower temperatures during high-performance tasks.
If the fans still shut off and the laptop overheats, it may be a faulty fan controller chip or thermal sensor—which would require service.
You’re clearly tech-savvy, so if you want to explore undervolting or external cooling pads as a temporary workaround, I can walk you through that too.
Let me know how far you get—I’ll stick with you until your OMEN cools off and stays cool. 💪🧊
