Hi, I would like to know the correct behaviour to maintain the battery for as much time as possible.
If I use my laptop for several hours a day, is it correct to hold it always plugged to the power supply ? I'd have to limit the charging percentage or plug and unplug when it is full charged?
Is there an option to limit the charging percentage? I didn't find it in the bios neither.
I would like to know the correct beviour to follow and I wanna clear this matter once and for all.
Another issue is my laptop battery life. It is a 3 months old victus with 70Whr. It lasts for 2 hours in any case: game, 3d works, surf the net.
It is the real duration?
Is there any option, app, process I have to close?

How to Maintain Your Laptop Battery for Longevity
If you use your HP Victus for several hours a day, here’s the best way to maintain your battery health:
1. Should You Keep It Plugged In?
✅ Yes, but with limitations.
- Ideal scenario: If your laptop has a battery charge limit option, set it to 80-90% and keep it plugged in.
- If no charge limit setting is available: Occasionally unplug and use the battery until it reaches 40-50%, then plug it back in.
🛑 Avoid deep discharges (0-10%) as they degrade battery life faster.
2. How to Limit Charging Percentage?
HP laptops don’t always have a built-in charge limiter in BIOS, but you can try these:
- Check HP Power Manager (if available).
- Use third-party apps like Battery Limiter or ThrottleStop to cap the charge level.
- Some advanced users modify charge settings via Windows registry, but HP does not officially support this.
3. Is 2 Hours of Battery Life Normal for HP Victus?
🔋 Yes, for gaming/workstation laptops. HP Victus has a power-hungry GPU and CPU, which consume battery quickly.
What to do to extend battery life?
- Use “Battery Saver” mode (Windows Settings → System → Power & Battery).
- Lower screen brightness.
- Disable unnecessary background apps (Settings → Apps → Startup).
- Turn off RGB lighting (if available).
- Set “Power mode” to “Best Power Efficiency” (Windows Power Options).
- Reduce refresh rate (set display to 60Hz instead of 144Hz or 165Hz).
4. Best Practices for Long-Term Battery Health
✔️ Keep battery between 20-80% (if possible).
✔️ Avoid heat exposure (don’t block vents, use a cooling pad).
✔️ If storing the laptop for a long time, keep the battery at 50% charge.
✔️ Use balanced power mode instead of high-performance mode when not gaming.

Hi @AlanB78,
Thank you for the response
Battery Limiter and ThrottleStop are third-party applications, and while they are generally safe if used correctly, they do require some caution.
Battery Limiter (For Charging Limits)
- Battery Limiter helps stop charging at a certain percentage (e.g., 80%) to extend battery lifespan.
- Where to get it? You can download it from trusted sources like Battery Limiter’s official site or other reputable software repositories.
- Is it safe? Yes, it’s a lightweight tool that only gives notifications when the charge exceeds a set limit, it doesn’t interfere with hardware settings.
ThrottleStop (For CPU Power & Heat Control)
- ThrottleStop is mainly used for CPU undervolting and power management, which can help reduce heat and battery drain.
- Where to get it? It’s available on TechPowerUp (ThrottleStop Download).
- Is it safe? If used improperly, it can cause instability. However, if you only use it to limit CPU power consumption rather than overclocking, it’s relatively safe.
Safer Alternatives
If you’re concerned about third-party tools, check if your BIOS or HP Power Manager has a built-in Battery Care Mode to limit max charge (some HP laptops do).
Let me know what helps.
