The Intel HD Graphics 620 dynamically allocates video memory from the system RAM, so the 128 MB "dedicated" memory is just a baseline reservation. The actual amount of video memory used can go much higher depending on system demand.
Can You Increase Dedicated Video Memory?
For Intel integrated graphics, increasing the dedicated memory is usually not possible through Windows settings. However, some BIOS versions allow users to adjust the DVMT (Dynamic Video Memory Technology) pre-allocated memory setting.
Here’s how to check:
Enter BIOS Setup:
Restart the PC and press F10 (or DEL/F2, depending on the manufacturer) during boot.
Look for Integrated Graphics Settings:
Navigate to Advanced > Graphics Configuration (varies by BIOS).
Check for an option like DVMT Pre-Allocated or UMA Frame Buffer Size.
If available, increase it to 256 MB or 512 MB.
Save changes and exit BIOS.
Check Video Memory Allocation in Windows:
Press Win + R, type dxdiag, and press Enter.
Go to the Display tab and check the Approx. Total Memory.
Will Increasing Dedicated Video Memory Improve Performance?
Probably not much, because:
Intel HD Graphics dynamically uses RAM as needed.
Performance bottlenecks are usually GPU processing power, not memory size.
If the system has 8GB+ RAM, Windows already allocates more than 128MB when required.
For gaming or heavy graphical workloads, upgrading to a dedicated GPU will provide real benefits.
Alternative Ways to Improve Performance:
✔ Increase System RAM: If you got, say, only 4GB RAM, upgrading to 8GB or more can help, as Intel HD Graphics borrows RAM for video memory.
✔ Use Dual-Channel RAM: If your system has one RAM stick, adding another of the same size improves integrated GPU performance.
✔ Lower Graphics Settings: In games or software, reducing resolution and effects can improve smoothness.
✔ Update Intel Graphics Drivers: Download the latest drivers from Intel’s website for better optimization.
Conclusion: Unless there’s a BIOS setting for DVMT, there's no real need to increase the dedicated memory manually -it won't significantly boost performance. Instead, upgrading RAM or using dual-channel / dual-rank memory would help more.
