Hi @Leike49,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Yes, you can update HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI. Since your notebook is reporting that an update is required, I recommend using the latest version from HP rather than continuing with the older diagnostics currently installed.

Update HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI: HP PC Hardware Diagnostics | HP® Support

Under “Diagnose PC Hardware issues outside of the OS,” download HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI. HP currently provides the UEFI diagnostic download from this page.

If you need to create the updated diagnostics on a USB flash drive:

  1. Download HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI from the HP page.
  2. Follow the installation instructions to create the diagnostics USB drive.
  3. Turn off the Victus notebook.
  4. Connect the USB drive containing the diagnostics.
  5. Turn the notebook on and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second.
  6. When the Startup Menu appears, press F2
  7. Select System Diagnostics and run the available tests.

HP confirms that UEFI Diagnostics runs outside Windows, which makes it useful for determining whether the problem is hardware-related rather than caused by Windows or its drivers.

You can also test the notebook without updating first
Since you're having trouble with the mouse/touchpad not selecting options, I would first try: Power off → turn on → repeatedly press Esc → F2

If HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI opens, use the keyboard/arrow keys to navigate and select Component Tests. Run the relevant Mouse/Touchpad test.

If the test reports a failure, please write down the 24-digit Failure ID. HP uses that ID to identify the hardware failure and assist with repair.

If the diagnostics are not available through F2, then use the updated UEFI diagnostics from the USB drive as described above.

Once you run the test, please let me know whether the Mouse/Touchpad test passes or fails, and provide the Failure ID if one is generated.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello,

I ran the test without updating first and checked the result for my mouse --> The problem remained.

I downloaded and installed the update of the test and followed the advised instructions.
My computer passed the first and the second pass of the test as wel as the spcific mouse/touch pad test.

The result for my mouse problem: the problem still exists.

I somewhere read a solution that advised to change the registry keys for the mouse.
I didn't follow that AI advise because I didn't trust myself for this solution.

I hope there is another way to get my mouse functioning with the option I also use on another computer on which I don't have that problem.

Hi @Leike49,

Thank you for the detailed update. It is good to know that you were able to update HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI and that the full diagnostics, including the Mouse/Touchpad test, passed successfully.

Since the hardware diagnostics passed, this does not currently point to a hardware failure with the touchpad. I would also not recommend changing Registry keys for this issue. Let's stay with HP-supported troubleshooting.

Please try the following:

1. Check the Windows touchpad setting

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad
  • Make sure the Touchpad is set to On.
  • If you use a USB or Bluetooth mouse, also check the option that keeps the touchpad enabled when a mouse is connected.

2. Run Windows Update

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update
  • Select Check for updates
  • Also open Advanced options > Optional updates and install any applicable driver updates.
  • Restart the notebook after the updates are installed.

HP specifically recommends checking Windows and optional updates when troubleshooting a touchpad that is not functioning correctly.

3. If the issue remains
Since you have already performed the hard reset and the HP UEFI Mouse/Touchpad diagnostics passed, the next HP-supported step is to test the system with a Windows reset/reinstallation. This helps determine whether the issue is being caused by the Windows installation or software configuration rather than the hardware.

Please back up your important personal files before performing a reset. HP recommends backing up your files before reinstalling Windows.

You can access Windows Recovery by:

  • Turn on the notebook and repeatedly press F11
  • Select Troubleshoot
  • Select Reset this PC
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.

HP documents this as the recovery method when Windows does not start or function normally: HP PCs - Reset the computer | HP® Support

At this stage, I would not make any Registry changes. Since the hardware diagnostics passed, reinstalling/resetting Windows is a much safer way to determine whether the remaining issue is software-related.

If the touchpad still behaves the same after a clean Windows installation/reset, please let us know. That result would be important for determining the next HP-supported step.
