I have a hp victus 15

Intel i7 ,16gb ram , rtx 4050 6gb.

So, I was trying to connect my laptop to a dolby vision TV to play Dolby vision content. But my victus is not even out putting hdr 10 and says hdr certification not found.

I even bought a hdmi 2.1 cable and my tv supports hdmi 2.1 with dolby vision at 4k. Hp claims that my laptop supports hdmi 2.1 and I use dolby access to try Dolby vision but no luck it didn't detect my TV. I still can use windows HDR at 4k 60hz but its not HDR 10

Can some please help me with this HDR/DOLBY VISON issue

Hi @Jeevan_Kaushal,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

I understand your concern ,  if we can narrow down what’s happening.

  • Which exact model of the HP Victus 15 are you using (there are multiple variants, and HDMI output specs can differ)?
  • Are you connecting directly from the laptop’s HDMI port, or through a docking station/adapter?
  • When you enable HDR in Windows, does the TV show any indication that it’s receiving HDR (sometimes TVs display a pop-up or change picture mode)?
  • Have you updated your NVIDIA graphics drivers and Windows display drivers recently?

Troubleshooting steps to try

  1. Update drivers and firmware
    • Make sure your NVIDIA RTX 4050 drivers are fully up to date via GeForce Experience.
    • Check Windows Update for any display-related updates.
    • Some TVs also require firmware updates to properly handle Dolby Vision over HDMI 2.1.
  2. Check Windows display settings
    • Go to Settings > System > Display > Advanced display settings.
    • Ensure your refresh rate is set to 60Hz or 120Hz depending on what your TV supports.
    • Toggle HDR on/off and see if the TV reacts.
  3. NVIDIA Control Panel settings
    • Open NVIDIA Control Panel → Change resolution.
    • Select your TV, set output color depth to 10-bit, and output color format to RGB or YCbCr444.
    • Apply and test if HDR10 becomes available.
  4. Dolby Access app
    • Dolby Vision on Windows PCs is limited and often requires specific hardware certification. The app may not detect your TV if the GPU/driver combination doesn’t advertise Dolby Vision capability.
    • Try testing with HDR10 first if HDR10 works, Dolby Vision may simply not be supported on this laptop’s HDMI output despite HDMI 2.1 bandwidth.
  5. Cable and port check
  • Confirm you’re using the laptop’s dedicated HDMI port (not USB-C to HDMI unless certified).
  • Even with HDMI 2.1 cables, some laptops only output HDR10 and not Dolby Vision.

It’s possible that your Victus supports HDR10 but not Dolby Vision over HDMI, which would explain why Dolby Access isn’t detecting it.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Deep_World,

Thankyou for responding.

Model : Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa1xxx

CPU : Intel i7-12560H

RAM : 8 x 2 DDR4

GPU : RTX 4050 laptop GPU 6 GB

• The graphics drivers are up to date in the nvidia control panel app.

• yes the TV reacts but, TV is showing it as HDR but not which HDR. In settings it's shows that HDR certification is not found

• And windows is running in the latest update.

• I am using the laptop's HDMI port and not a adapter or type C to hdmi.

I did all the steps but still the same.

Does RTX 4050 laptop GPU even support dolby vision or 4k 120hz ?

Hi @Jeevan_Kaushal,

Thanks for your response.

The NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4050 Laptop GPU is a capable graphics card but does not inherently support Dolby Vision or 4K at 120Hz.

To fully utilize Dolby Vision or achieve 4K at 120Hz, both your display and GPU must support these features.

The RTX 4050 Laptop GPU can handle high-resolution displays and high refresh rates to some extent, but whether it supports 4K at 120Hz depends on the entire setup, including the display's capabilities, connections, and other hardware components.

I hope this helps.
