Hi @Rumpledshirt88,

Thank you for your response,

The "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" error in games like Civilization VI (Civ VI) on an OMEN by HP Laptop could be caused by various issues. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the problem.

  • Update Graphics Drivers: Make sure your graphics drivers are up-to-date. Visit the official website of your graphics card manufacturer (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel) and download the latest drivers for your GPU.
  • Verify Game Files: Steam users can verify the integrity of game files. Right-click on Civilization VI in your Steam library, go to Properties > Local Files, and click on "Verify Integrity of Game Files."
  • Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows operating system is up-to-date. Install any pending updates, including graphics driver updates provided by Windows Update.
  • Disable Mods: If you are using mods in Civilization VI, try disabling them to see if they are causing the issue. Some mods may be incompatible or outdated.
  • Run the Game in Compatibility Mode: Right-click on the game executable or shortcut, go to Properties > Compatibility, and try running the game in compatibility mode for an earlier version of Windows.
  • Adjust Graphics Settings: Lowering in-game graphics settings may help. Try reducing the graphics quality and resolution to see if it resolves the problem.
  • Check for Overheating: Ensure that your laptop is not overheating. Use monitoring tools to check the temperature of your CPU and GPU. Overheating can cause stability issues.
  • Reinstall the Game: If none of the above solutions work, try uninstalling and then reinstalling Civilization VI. This can sometimes resolve corrupted game files.
  • Update BIOS/UEFI: Check if there are any updates available for your laptop's BIOS/UEFI firmware. Updating it may provide compatibility fixes.

Before making any changes, it's a good idea to create backups and ensure that you have a restore point in case anything goes wrong during the troubleshooting process.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
