Hi @Pawish,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Performance issues with Elden Ring on your HP Omen 16 can stem from a variety of factors, especially since it appears to affect both your laptop and your friend's. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the low FPS issue.

Check System Requirements

Make sure your system meets or exceeds the recommended requirements for Elden Ring. While the HP Omen 16 is powerful, it’s important to check if your hardware is in line with what the game demands.

Update GPU Drivers

Ensure your graphics drivers (NVIDIA or AMD) are up-to-date. Elden Ring received optimization updates after its launch, and driver updates from GPU manufacturers often include performance fixes for newer games.

  • NVIDIA GeForce Experience: Update through the app.
  • AMD Radeon Software: Check for updates in the software.

Adjust In-Game Settings

Lowering certain settings in Elden Ring can help boost performance:

  • Set the resolution to 1080p if playing at higher resolutions.
  • Lower the shadow quality, anti-aliasing, effects quality, and post-processing.
  • Set the game to borderless windowed mode, which sometimes helps with stability.
  • Disable motion blur and depth of field.

Disable Background Apps

Close any unnecessary programs running in the background that may be consuming CPU, GPU, or RAM resources while playing the game.

Check for Game Updates and Patches

Ensure that you have installed the latest updates and patches for Elden Ring. Many performance-related fixes were rolled out post-launch.

Laptop Cooling and Power Settings

  • Ensure the laptop is set to Performance Mode in the Omen Gaming Hub to optimize power and cooling for gaming.
  • Keep your laptop's cooling system in check; overheating can cause throttling, leading to FPS drops.
  • Ensure the fans are functioning well and clean them if necessary.

Try NVIDIA Control Panel Tweaks (If applicable)

If you're using an NVIDIA GPU, tweaking the settings in the control panel can help:

  • Set Elden Ring to High-Performance GPU under Manage 3D settings.
  • Disable V-Sync from the control panel (enable it in-game instead, if needed).
  • Ensure the Power Management Mode is set to Prefer Maximum Performance.

Check Windows Game Mode and Graphics Settings

  • Ensure that Game Mode is enabled on Windows. You can access this via Windows Settings > Gaming > Game Mode.
  • Make sure your laptop is set to High-Performance Power Plan in Windows' power settings.

Potential CPU and GPU Bottleneck

While Elden Ring is more GPU-heavy, check if the game is properly utilizing both the CPU and GPU. Use task manager or third-party software like MSI Afterburner to monitor usage. If either component is being over-utilized or under-utilized, it could indicate an issue with resource allocation.

Reinstall the Game

Sometimes corrupted files can cause performance issues. Consider reinstalling Elden Ring and ensure there are no background installations or downloads running.

VRAM and Texture Settings

Ensure that the texture settings in the game are appropriate for the amount of VRAM your laptop's GPU has. If the textures are too high for the available VRAM, it can cause significant performance drops.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
