Hi, I have a HP victus 16 (windows 11). I am having Heavy fps drops in my external monitor. I have an AOC 275G2 165 Hz monitor (144 hz as I have it connected with HDMI). There seems to be this random FPS drop in all my games whenever there is any kind of animation switch or change or something popping the screen. It didn't have any problems before but has recently started doing so. I have updated all my drivers, checked my hdmi, set the Nvidia control panel to High performace, tried capping the fps . nothing seems to work. please help me.

Hi @Prithvi69,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've already taken several troubleshooting steps, but let's see if we can dig deeper to identify the issue. Here are a few more things you can try.
- Check Refresh Rate Settings: Ensure that both your Windows display settings and your Nvidia Control Panel settings are correctly set to 144Hz for your external monitor. Sometimes, Windows or graphics card settings can revert to default values after updates or changes.
- Monitor Cable Connection: Double-check your HDMI cable connection between your laptop and external monitor. Sometimes, a loose or faulty cable connection can cause intermittent issues.
- Temperature Monitoring: Monitor your laptop's temperature while gaming. Overheating can lead to performance drops. Make sure your laptop's cooling system is functioning properly and that there isn't excessive dust buildup in the vents.
- Background Processes: Check for any background processes or applications that might be consuming system resources while gaming. Close unnecessary programs or services that might be running in the background.
- Power Settings: Ensure that your laptop is set to High Performance mode in the power settings. Sometimes, laptops may throttle performance to save power, especially when running on battery.
- BIOS Update: Check if there are any BIOS updates available for your laptop. Sometimes, BIOS updates can improve system stability and performance.
- Monitor for Resource Hogging: Use Task Manager to monitor CPU, GPU, and memory usage while gaming. Look for any spikes or unusually high usage that could indicate a bottleneck or resource contention.
- Driver Rollback: If the issue started after a driver update, consider rolling back to a previous version of the graphics driver to see if that resolves the problem.
- External Monitor Firmware Update: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your AOC monitor. Sometimes, firmware updates can address compatibility issues or improve performance.
- Hardware Diagnostics: Run hardware diagnostics on your laptop to check for any hardware issues, such as a failing GPU or RAM.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
