So , I just bought omen 16 wf1000 and when Im playing games on it , I noticed that when plugged in it gives good performance like 125 fps or something , but when I run it on battery it drops to 14-25 fps , I researched it online and found out that it's set to give low performance on battery by default to conserve battery health. I usually game for 3hrs or so when I play , and I don't think it's a good idea to keep it plugged in when it's Fully charged for hours , could anyone help me on how to override those default settings to give the same performance on battery as well. I tried many fixes from YouTube but none works I set It to prefer best performance on battery on nvidia and in the control panel too but no results, pls help

Welcome to our HP Community forum!
Hello! Your observations about gaming performance differences between plugged-in and battery modes are spot on. Let’s break it down and explore your options.
1. Why Does Performance Drop on Battery?
Modern gaming laptops, including the OMEN 16, reduce performance on battery power to:
- Conserve battery life: High-performance gaming drains the battery rapidly.
- Protect hardware: Running high-performance hardware on limited battery power can generate excessive heat and strain the system.
This is a design feature rather than a fault, and most laptops are optimized to deliver full performance only when plugged in.
2. Can You Get Full Performance on Battery?
While it's challenging to achieve the exact same performance on battery as when plugged in, there are steps you can take to improve it:
a. Adjust Power Settings in Windows:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery > Battery Settings.
- Select "Best Performance" under battery usage while on battery power.
- Open Control Panel > Power Options, and for your active plan, select High Performance or customize the plan:
- Set the Processor Power Management > Minimum and Maximum Processor State to 100%.
- You could even set your Power Options to "Ultimate Performance":
b. NVIDIA Control Panel Settings:
- Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
- Navigate to Manage 3D Settings > Power Management Mode.
- Set it to "Prefer Maximum Performance" for battery mode.
c. OMEN Gaming Hub:
The OMEN Gaming Hub may have additional options for tweaking performance profiles. Check if there’s a way to disable battery performance throttling or select a performance mode.
3. Btw, Is It Safe to Game While Plugged In for Hours?
Yes, gaming while plugged in for extended periods is fine, provided you take precautions:
- Modern laptops, like the OMEN 16, are designed to stop charging the battery once it reaches 100% to avoid overcharging.
- Many gaming laptops have a "Battery Health Manager" setting in the BIOS or OMEN Gaming Hub that allows you to:
- Limit charging to 80%-90% for long gaming sessions.
- Keep the laptop plugged in without harming the battery.
4. Alternative Solution: External Battery Pack
If you prefer gaming on battery, consider investing in a high-capacity external power bank that supports your laptop’s power input (via USB-C or proprietary connectors). This can extend gaming sessions without requiring the laptop to be plugged into an outlet.
5. Conclusion:
Getting full performance on battery is tricky due to hardware and software design. While the above steps can improve performance, keeping the laptop plugged in during gaming is the best option for sustained high performance.
Let me know if you’d like step-by-step guidance on any of these settings or have more questions. Happy gaming! 🎮
Kind Regards,
