Hi
I have some problem with my newly bought HP Pavilion 15-inch with i7-8550u, Geforce mx150, 8 gb RAM.
The laptop runs Overwatch fine at 1080 p with 60+fps, but only while on battery. As soon as I plug in the original AC-adapter FPS drops to around 20 every 5 seconds even if I lower the resolution and render scale.
I have updated drivers and checked the powerplans - it is set to high performance.
Monitoring the CPU with Intels XTU I have found that the core frequency drops to 0.5 Ghz when the fps drops.
Seems to me that the CPU is throttling - but the temperature seems to be stable around 65 degrees celsius (se the screenshot)
Anyone knows how to fix this problem?
Thanks!

Hello @AugustT1
Two things I can think of to try.
1.
Make sure your Nvidia settings are set to maximum performance, not just Windows power options.
Set Nvidia to use Maximum Performance in both Global and Program settings (choose the specific game in Program settings).
IF this does not help, go to 2.
2.
Run the UEFI Diagnostics Tool at power-on and run the Component Test for Power>Power Source Test.
Rapidly tap F2 after you press the power button to access it.
Have the power cord plugged in but nothing else.
If it found nothing, go back and also run the system board test.
I'm guessing you have a weak AC charger and will have to get it replaced.
If it is bad or not, you are still entitled to contact HP Support directly and speak to a rep.
They might have you send it in for warranty. Do this if you cannot return it to the store you purchased from for a replacement.

EDIT:
Considering your symptoms match those of scenario 2 above, I did some checking.
That series also comes with a 90 watt adapter. Your issue resembles an under powered charger.
I looked to see if yours should have the 90 wt (not 65 wt) but cannot find any documentation for it.
I am suspecting you may need the 90 watt charger.
You would have to contact support for that if they need to replace it.

First, try updating the BIOS to the latest. If that does not resolve the issue then contact HP ASAP.
The FPS dropping on AC is a known issue with the Pavilion 15 CK and has been reported over here :
A 90w power adapter and the latest BIOS apparently resolves the issue.

Yes, as I was about to say, contact HP for warranty issue. They will most likely change your power supply.
