Hi!
I have a fps limitation in games. The game runs fine for a few minutes, and then for 1-2 minutes I have a persistent fps drop. After it returns to normal. As an example: In PUBG where the match lasts 25-30 minutes and the game runs normally in 115-130fps. It will decrease 5 times and will be limited to 60-70fps.
Initially i thought it was a Windows problem, but i reinstalled it and the problem persists.
Thank you!

Manage In-Game Settings
- Lower Graphics Settings: Reduce the game's graphics settings to see if it stabilizes the FPS.
- V-Sync and Frame Limiters: Ensure V-Sync is off and no frame limiters are set within the game or graphics driver settings.
Check for Throttling
- ThrottleStop: Use ThrottleStop to monitor and control CPU throttling.
- NVIDIA Inspector: Use NVIDIA Inspector to monitor and control GPU throttling.
Check for Disk Issues
- Disk Usage: Ensure your game and operating system are installed on an SSD for faster load times and better performance.
- Disk Cleanup: Run disk cleanup to remove unnecessary files and free up disk space.
Update the Game
- Game Updates: Ensure your game is updated to the latest version, as patches can improve performance and stability.
Consider Hardware Issues
- If none of the above steps work, there might be a hardware issue with your laptop.
By following these steps, you should be able to identify the cause of the FPS drops and take appropriate action to resolve the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @AndreiLee,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The FPS drops on your Victus By HP 16.1 Inch Gaming Laptop PC could be due to several factors, including thermal throttling, background processes, power settings, or driver issues. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue.
Monitor Temperatures
- Use HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to monitor your CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming. High temperatures can cause thermal throttling, leading to FPS drops.
- If temperatures are high, consider cleaning your laptop's cooling system, ensuring proper ventilation, and using a cooling pad.
Update Drivers
- Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure you have the latest drivers for your GPU from the NVIDIA or AMD website.
- Update Chipset and BIOS: Check HP's support website for the latest chipset drivers and BIOS updates for your laptop.
Check Power Settings
- High-Performance Power Plan: Ensure your laptop is set to "High Performance" in the power settings.
- NVIDIA Control Panel: Set the power management mode to "Prefer maximum performance" in the NVIDIA Control Panel.
Disable Background Processes
- Task Manager: Check for any unnecessary background processes or applications that could be using CPU or disk resources.
- Game Mode: Enable Windows Game Mode to optimize system performance while gaming.
Check for Software Conflicts
- Antivirus: Temporarily disable your antivirus software to see if it affects performance.
- Background Apps: Close any unnecessary applications running in the background.
