My GPU fan has been making a rattling noise since few days back and now it has stopped working completely

Hello,

If the fan has stopped completly, that could be bad if you continue to use it as it won't have any cooling direct to the card.

The rattling that was occuring could either be a cable continue to hit the fan (which is not often common in pre-builds) or it could be somthing with the fan. Have you checked the fan on GPU? Does it all look fine? It could also be related to the power, so it might be worth unpinning the power cable and plugging it back in again if you know how to.

Also, it might sound simple but before I have just got a can or compressed air and just given it a blow out and the ammount of dust just flew out so might be worth doing that incase it's somthing that's been caught up whilst it was spinning around.

I mean over all, if the PC is still in warranty, I would before trying any of that contact HP and make a claim on the warranty as they might have a more in-depth analysis, tool or somthing like that to help you out with.

I have opened the laptop and cleaned the fan but it seems to not freely move when turned manually by my hand unlike my cpu fan. I have given it to a repair shop but they have applied some oil I guess on the fan and it was working fine for a couple of days until the problem started to rise up again and now it has completely stopped just like before the oil has been applied. Sadly I have run out of warranty

Hello @Nigel12

The fan part numbers are

929455-001FAN, LEFT
929456-001FAN, RIGHT - with thermal pad from supplier

I assume you are out of warranty.

I don't see them available in the United Arab Emirates (if that is approximately where you are), but I do see them available in the United States.

You might be able to search the web and find one from a third party supplier.

Here is the parts finder catalog if in the US... http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?searchText=1JE70AV

Different model laptop, same part numbers.
