OMEN 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-en1000 (2L1F1AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello.

I came across this problem, where my laptop seems to lose control over fan speed. When i boot the system everything works fine, i can change fan speed as i want in the OMEN gaming hub, but In some time fan speed just sets to around 3000 rpm and there is absolutely no way to change it, and in the OMEN gaming hub its showing either the last rpm the fans were spinning on when it had control over them, or just (0)/().

Ive been having this issue very rarely throughout years, but past week its happening every single time i boot my system. The only thing that helps is rebooting my laptop, and then in 5 minutes it loses control over the fans again. Ive tried a lot of things to solve this issue. I updated the BIOS, reinstalled OMEN gaming hub (which also helps just for 5 minutes), disabled Quick Boot, set BIOS settings to default, nothing seems to help.
I would very much appreciate if someone gives me ideas on how to solve this issue, because its made using my laptop very uncomfortable, not only the fan speed is not attached to the temperature, but i have to sit in the noise of 3000 rpms constantly and its driving me crazy already.

If more details are needed just ask me, maybe i forgot to mention some things.
Thank you.

UPDATE: upgrading to Windows 11 fixed the issue.

Hi @yura_112

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the issue in such detail. It’s genuinely frustrating to lose control over fan speed—especially when the system locks into a noisy, high-RPM state and the OMEN Gaming Hub becomes unresponsive.

You’ve already taken commendable steps, and your persistence deserves a solution that restores both comfort and control.

Root Cause Possibilities

  • OMEN Gaming Hub service instability: The fan control module may crash silently after boot.
  • Background conflicts with Windows services or third-party apps.
  • Firmware or EC (Embedded Controller) desynchronization, especially after BIOS updates.

Recommended Steps to Restore Fan Control

1. Clean Reinstall OMEN Gaming Hub and Dependencies

  • Uninstall OMEN Gaming Hub via Control Panel.
  • Open Services.msc and ensure OMEN Command Center Service is removed.
  • Delete residual folders from:C:\Program Files\HP\ C:\ProgramData\HP\
  • Reboot and reinstall the latest version from HP’s OMEN Gaming Hub page.

2. Reset Embedded Controller (EC)

This helps reinitialize fan control logic:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Disconnect the power adapter.
  • Hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  • Reconnect power and boot normally.

3. Disable Fast Startup in Windows

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup.
  • Save and reboot.

4. Check for Conflicting Services

  • Open Task Manager > Startup tab.
  • Disable any third-party system monitoring tools (e.g., MSI Afterburner, HWMonitor).
  • Reboot and observe fan behavior.

5. Update EC Firmware (if available)

I understand how disruptive this has become—not just in terms of noise, but the loss of thermal control and comfort. You’ve already gone above and beyond in your troubleshooting.

Let me know how it goes.

Hello.
Thanks for your answer. I did everything you listed, but unfortunately the issue is still there. I load my laptop and in 2 minutes the fans are on their own (just stuck on 3000 rpm). I dont know what to do with this anymore.
