Hello there,

I recently bought an external monitor and i'm unable to turn on Gsync. The monitor supports FreeSync Premium and I have turned it on in the OSD but i dont see any Gsync setup option in the Nvidia Control Panel or gsync compatible in the manage 3d settings tab. I've updated to latest drivers. Both laptop and monitor have HDMI 2.0 ports. How do i enable Gsync? Does my laptop support Gsync? HDMI port connects through GPU so im hoping it supports gsync.

Laptop Specs:

HP Pavilion 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop PC 15-ec2146AX

AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU

Monitor: Acer Nitro Vg271U M3 27 Inch

@Yashass17, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Your Acer Nitro VG271U M3 monitor supports FreeSync Premium. While FreeSync and G-SYNC are different technologies, NVIDIA's "G-SYNC Compatible" mode allows certain FreeSync monitors to work with NVIDIA GPUs. However, not all FreeSync monitors are validated by NVIDIA for G-SYNC compatibility.

I checked NVIDIA's G-SYNC compatibility list for your specific monitor model, and it is not officially supported for G-SYNC.

You can always verify this yourself by checking the monitor's compatibility on NVIDIA's official list.

Let me know how it goes.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

@Garp_senchau Hello,

Thanks for replying. I am aware it is not officially certified by Nvidia but most of the monitors with Freesync Premium are compatible with G-sync.

Here is one review as well, https://www.displayninja.com/acer-xv271u-m3-review/ , It's mentioned in the Performance  that though not officially certified this monitor is GPU compatible.

Anyway, HDMI ports on my laptop and monitor is 2.0, Do you think that might be the problem? and laptop does not have a display port. HDMI port is definitely connected to GPU but I feel the version is the problem or hp has somehow blocked the Gsync feature (No problem if that's the case as well I just need an answer if my laptop can support Gsync over 2.0 HDMI or not).

Regards.

Hey @Yashass17,

Thank you for your response.

your laptop is unlikely to support G-Sync over HDMI 2.0. For full G-Sync support, you'd need either a HDMI 2.1 support, which is more common in newer devices. You can still use your laptop with G-Sync features if connected to a compatible G-Sync monitor with DisplayPort.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
