Recently i have encountered some minor stuttering/lag issues (which lasts for 3-4 seconds) in all my games. The drivers, windows are up to date & the temp are also fine. So, I've just switched to quiet mode in omen app and there's literally no lag while gaming. So my question is can i run the games on Quiet mode with full fan speed? Does it going to affect my laptop in future run? OR any solution for this issue.

Specs-
Ryzen 5 5600h
16 gb ram
Radeon RX 6500M

Hi @Garry365,

Thank you for your response.

Running games on Quiet mode with full fan speed can be an effective workaround for reducing lag, but it’s worth understanding what’s happening and the implications.

Why Quiet Mode Works Better for You:

Performance and Power Profiles:

  • Default Mode: Typically prioritizes high performance, which might push the CPU and GPU to their maximum frequencies. This could lead to small power spikes or thermal throttling, causing stutters.
  • Quiet Mode: Reduces power usage and stabilizes thermal output, potentially avoiding these spikes, which may result in smoother gameplay.

Fan Speed Impact:

  • By manually increasing the fan speed in Quiet Mode, you are cooling components more efficiently. This reduces the chance of thermal throttling, improving consistency.

Can You Use Quiet Mode with Full Fan Speed Long-Term?

Yes, but there are some caveats:

Advantages:

  • Cooler Temps: Better cooling can prolong hardware lifespan.
  • Reduced Noise: If temperatures stay stable, Quiet Mode ensures the system doesn’t overheat while gaming.

Potential Concerns:

  • Performance Dip: Quiet Mode may limit the CPU and GPU's performance ceiling. While this is fine if your games run smoothly, more demanding titles might struggle.
  • Wear and Tear: Running fans at full speed constantly may shorten their lifespan, though modern laptops are built to withstand extended use.

Solutions for the Default Mode Lag:

Here are steps to try fixing the stuttering in Default Mode:

Adjust Performance Settings:

  • In the OMEN Gaming Hub, create a custom profile with:
    • Default Performance Mode
    • Maximum Fan Speed

Update Radeon Settings:

  • Open the AMD Adrenalin Software and ensure:
    • Graphics Settings are optimized for performance.
    • Disable Radeon Chill and other power-saving options.

Tweak Windows Settings:

  • Open Power Options:
    • Set to High Performance or create a custom plan.
  • Ensure no background apps are consuming significant CPU or GPU resources.

Check Game-Specific Settings:

  • Reduce settings like anti-aliasing or shadows to stabilize performance.
  • Cap the FPS to match your laptop’s refresh rate (e.g., 60 Hz).

Check Storage:

  • Ensure your SSD is not nearing full capacity, as this can cause stutters.

BIOS or Firmware Update:

  • Check if HP has released any updates for your model.

Recommendation:

You can run games on Quiet Mode with full fan speed safely, but if you want to use Default Mode, adjusting the settings above can potentially resolve the lag issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the tips, although I guess the issue occurs only with specific games. Not sure whether my laptop has an issue or the game is not being optimized properly for my system.
