I want to know wether this is due to battery issues or something else? Or if it is the battery issue should i go for a new battery? Please hepl me clear this mess....

Hello @Raaghav
Sounds like your battery came to its end of life. That laptop is at least 3 years old now and depending on how much you used it and considering the battery was small to begin with, it is normal.
HP does not sell those batteries, so you would have to look up a third party seller for a compatible option.
Your battery is a 2C 41WH 5.36Ah LI BP02042XL-PR part number: 849909-855
Your manual... http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05228250
You can also just remove the old battery and continue to use the laptop with the power adapter until you decide to replace it.
The sudden lags in gaming? I cant say what is causing that. It might be the battery, might not. As I pointed out above, you can remove the battery and see if the lag improves.
