This post is in regard to the 90-100 C (peak) temps the Omen owners are experiencing while gaming. I have found this occurs during battery charging. I found out that HP does have a stability/stress test feature in their HP PC Hardware Diagnostic software app (you have to download and install it after you buy your computer). It is under "CPU Stress Test #1". I ran this test with the battery connected and disconnected.
Battery charger disconnected: 60-84 C temps
Battery charger connected: 70-86 C temps
These temps look acceptable, right? Sure enough, ran the Aida64 series of CPU and FPU tests and with the battery charging, peak temps hit 94-97 C on a couple of cores. Ran 3DMark Timestrike benchmark and again, peak temps hit 90-99 C, particularly during the CPU part of the test.
I am thinking these high temps are related to battery charging, so this issue may possibly be remedied through the BIOS. If HP can find a way to reduce these peak temps to the 80-84 C range during battery charging - WITHOUT IMPACTING PERFORMANCE - then I'm sure all the Omen owners would be satisfied. It would be nice if this could be accomplished without running the fans at max speed with the noise and all, but hey, can't have your cake and eat it too.
Note that when charging, I do have my Omen power scheme set to 'Best Performance' but I haven't found that changing the setting lowers the peak temps.
My other complaint about the HP stress testing regimen is that it should be more rigorous. On my Dell XPS 13, the test lasts 35'; on my Lenovo Yoga 920, it lasts almost an hour. It tests all system components including the memory and CPU, and I see the highest temps on these laptops while performing these manufacturer's stress tests, which mirrors temps observed during gaming and running 3D applications.

Thank you for your observations. They were written in an instructive and understandable way.
I have run the Stress test on our HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13t and found that it gave temps about the same as you observed. Since the TJunction for the Intel i7 processors is 100C, I have not been too worried. At least, at this point. Of course, I don't put the laptop through much stress on a regualar basis; unlike the Omen. However, it would be great if the temps could be reduced by a BIOS update. We'll have to wait and see!
