I am wanting to put an SSD into my 15-ax243dx laptop, but I can't figure out which type I need. Is it a PCIe, NAND, NVMe, or what? I'm kinda new to this stuff and I want to learn, so how could I figure this out in the future? I have this SSD in mind, would this work, is there a better option?
I am also looking into putting more RAM into the laptop and have this in mind, would it work and is there a better option?
Thanks,
Ben

@BenKuhlman , welcome to the forum.
We will be glad to help you learn about upgrading your laptop. Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide for it. This guide has everything that you need to know about your laptop.
In Chapter 5, Removal and replacement procedures for authorized service provider parts, Page 41, it lists the compatible M.2 SSD's. Also, in Chapter 5, Pages 42 and 43, it lists the compatible memory. Please note, these are in the section for authorized service providers. This means that HP recommends these replacements be done by trained professionals, unless the individual is very skilled in working on laptops.
Here are the memory and SSD's that Crucial Memory recommends for your laptop. If you check the Part Number of the fourth M.2 SSD in the list it matches the one in your link. However, I know from information that I recently received that Crucial's Ballistix memory is not compatible with any other memory. Therefore, you won't be able to match it to the existing memory. You would have to replace the existing memory.
I suggest that you install CPU-Z to check the brand and timings of the existing memory. You will find the manufacturer and the XMP timings in the "SPD" tab. Also, check the Memory tab for the timings of the existing memory. Once you have these specifications, I suggest that you contact Crucial's Tech Support for help with choosing the correct memory to match your existing memory.
I know there are terms in my reply that will need some explanations. The best way is to run a search. Believe me, I do this all of the time. For instance, what is XMP? Here is the answer: https://www.pcgamer.com/what-are-xmp-profiles-and-how-do-i-use-them/
You won't be able to use the JEDEC profiles because they won't be in your BIOS, however.
I hope this helps you with beginning to learn about upgrading.
