Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently filed a case with support:

fan error 90b at boot

keys typing gibberish

later mouse malfunctioning in dialogs - strings of characters; rmb on start shutting down

agent updated bios - no effect

did a factory reset - all problems gone

could this be a virus?

@kjackson1947

We would have no way of knowing that. It might also have simply been the OS corrupted in some other way.

Glad its working now.

first this is not an OS problem error 90b relates only to HP pcs so it must be at a deeper level than Windows. When I ignored the error and booted into windows sometimes one fan would stop and sometimes the other but running a stress test both ran continuously. So it was not a hardware problem; confirmed when the factory reset 'solved' things.

Therefore it is either a corruption of HP or a virus targeting HP.

If it happens again I am going to try wiping all partitions and installing bare windows without any HP stuff

Thats fine, but you mentioned other issues beside the  fan 90b error. 😉

What is a corruption of HP?

HP Recommended

the other issues only developed after the fan error warning

What is a corruption of HP?

well hopefully someone from HP will read this and solve an issue which has been plaguing god knows how many owners of their PCs (because their 'solutions' don't

Ok sure. But without you giving helpful details, no one will be able to do anything for you. Considering you've since stated you reinstalled the OS and the problem is gone, not much else we could do now. 😉

Have a nice day.
