Hello, this is really frustrating, my A key is constantly cutting out randomly. Sometimes it will work for hours straight, other times it won't work at all. I am almost certain this is a hardware issue because I tried a USB keyboard and it worked fine. 

 

Strangely, this also happened about a year ago, but stopped and instead my Ctrl key and Backslash key started working intermittently instead. That then stopped a few months ago, and then the glitchy A key started up again recently. 

 

Please please help me, as the A key is obviously a very common key for any sort of keyboard use, especially gaming 😞

 

And yes I have taken the keycap off and tried to clean it out

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to complete a functional test of the keyboard and identify any problems with the hardware.

NOTE: Bluetooth devices are not currently supported.
  1. Download the latest version of HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.

  2. In Windows, search for and right-click HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows, and then select Run as administrator.

  3. Click Component Tests, click Input Devices, and then select the Keyboard Test.

  4. Click Run once to begin the test.

    The test ends when you complete the tasks or after 3 minutes.

Thanks but all this seemed to do was show me what I already know, which is that the key isn't working, unless I am misunderstanding?

Thank you for posting back.

 

I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. 
The last thing I can suggest try and restore the OS back to the factory default, which will isolate whether it’s a software or hardware issue.  The HP Cloud Recovery Tool allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive. You can use the downloaded recovery image file in order to install the Windows operating system.
