Hi!
I have encountered a problem with my HP Omen Notebook. When I try to connect my laptop to my 4k external monitor, it won't work. When I connect the HDMI with my laptop and monitor both screens become black. If I press FN+F4 till my screen comes back it will recognize the external monitor when I go to screen settings in Windows, however, when I press duplicate screen or only show content on screen 2 the black screens appear again. I don't know if the specific cable is the reason because other smaller cables do work. I am talking about a 10m (33ft) HDMI 1.4 cable that supports 4k @30Hz. The other smaller cables support HDMI 2.0 @60Hz, however, I tested a 10m HDMI 2.0 cable and that also did not work. I've tested the HDMI 1.4 and 2.0 cable with other devices and it works without any problems. The monitor supports up to HDMI 2.0. So I want to know if my laptop has some problems with 10m HDMI cables. I don't think that should be a problem right?
Thank you in advance,

The simple answer is the HDMI port on your computer won't support 4K output no matter with 10m or 50cm cable. It supports 1920 x 1080 max.
You may be able to use USB to HDMI with 4K support adapter. I know the following adapter works

but only at lower refresh rate.
Regards.

Thanks for the reply.
I already got signal with a smaller cable and it did output 4k. When I hover over to the Windows screen settings I can select 4k and it will run without any problems. But when I connect with different 10m HDMI cables of the same class, it won't work. Should I maybe try an HDMI to Displayport cable? And if I use an HDMI cable it should output 1080p on the screen right? The problem is that I won't get a signal no matter what kind of resolution I use with the longer cables.

I had the 17 inch version of that series and it absolutely would do 4K from HDMI.
BUT, I had a hard time getting it to work. Most cables wouldnt work and I went through half a dozen before finding one that would.
I think its a matter of cables as you suspect. And I did try the Mini DP to HDMI adapter (Best Buy store for Apple adapter) and it had no issues what so ever.
