OMEN by HP - 15-ce019na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

As you might tell by the title, I have a HP Omen (15-ce019na) and cannot update the BIOS.

I have downloaded the update file:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp123501-124000/sp123530.exe

...but when I try to update, either nothing happens, or I'm asked to charge the battery.

The computer is always plugged in as the battery died just after the warranty expired, and I'm just looking for a way to "force" the "sp123530.exe" file to update the BIOS.

Any help would be much appreciated.

@kmackie, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Unfortunately, updating the BIOS typically requires a working battery to prevent any interruptions during the process, which could potentially harm your system.

Check Power Options: Ensure that your computer's power options are set to "High Performance" while connected to the AC adapter. Sometimes BIOS updates require the system to register as being powered by both AC and battery.

Unfortunately, "forcing" the BIOS update without a proper power setup is not recommended due to the risk of rendering your system unusable. It's crucial to ensure the system has an uninterrupted power supply throughout the BIOS update.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the reply, and the link to the "Updating the BIOS" guide, which I had already tried to follow.

The "sp123530.exe" file I have downloaded unpacks to a "BIOS_Update.exe" which doesn't do anything.

If I open Task Manager and see the running processes, it appears there for a few seconds and, unhelpfully, exits.

It does this whether or not I "Run As Administrator".

It does this with my anti-virus and security softwares disabled or enabled.

I can take the file to another computer hoping to get the prompt to create a bootable USB stick, but again nothing happens.
