Hello,
I bought an HP Omen 16 wd0275ng and wanted to upgrade it with my Samsung 990 PRO 2 tb. Unfortunately, the SSD is not displayed as a boot device. The SSD is now back in my old laptop for the time being, because it works great there.
Is the Samsung 990 PRO incompatible with my laptop?
Many thanks for your help.

Hi:
Even though the SSD is not displayed as a boot device, have you tried installing W11 on it?
If not try that before giving up, because any PCIe 4 x 4 NVMe SSD should work.
You will most likely run into a notice that Windows can't find a drive to install on because Windows does not have the storage controller drivers needed to find the SSD.
I zipped up and attached the Intel storage controller drivers below so Windows can find the drive.
The attached file is good for both W10 & W11.
Copy all of the files in both folders in the attached file to a USB flash drive.
Have the flash drive and your Windows installation media plugged into USB ports.
Boot from the W10/W11 installation flash drive.
When you get to the screen where no drives can be found, click on the Load driver option, browse to the flash drive with the storage controller drivers on it.
If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.
Click Next and if those are the right drivers Windows should find the drive and install.

Hello,
thanks for your reply. I haven't tried anything myself, someone else has installed the SSD.
I could not install Windows 11 on the old laptop with the 990 pro because the minimum requirement was not met. and the new laptop does not show the ssd.
Should I try again to install windows 11 on the 990 pro via the old laptop (there are detours, the old laptop has an i7 10750h, 32 gb ram and an rtx 2060) or would windows have to be completely reinstalled anyway for everything to run smoothly? i have of course already backed up my files and some of them are already on the new laptop with the 512 gb ssd. But there are still 700 gb of my old data on the 990 pro at the moment.
Does the 990 pro have to be empty/formatted?
Does the 990 pro have to be in the laptop or could I also test it with an external SSD NVME enclosure?
And how exactly do I create a windows installation media?
do i have to buy a windows 11 product key or can i somehow use the windows 11 home from the new laptop/SSD?
I have understood everything else, have already downloaded the drivers and will put them on a usb stick.
The only thing I don't quite understand is the windows installation and whether the 990 pro has to be directly in the laptop or whether I can test it with an external ssd enclosure. (the laptop only has one ssd slot)
thank you very much for your help.
best regards

You're very welcome.
Try the method I posted and the driver I attached to install Windows with the drive installed in the notebook.
You can't install Windows on an older PC and then plug the drive in your newer one because the drive controllers are not the same, so it is unlikely the notebook will boot up.
The drive does not have to be empty or formatted.
You can create W11 installation media by selecting the 2nd option at the link below:
Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)
But here is the easiest way to reinstall Windows on the new drive:
Use the HP cloud recovery tool on another PC to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with the notebook:
Here is an info link for how to use the utility. You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this.
You can download the utility from the Microsoft Store:
HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store
Since you have to use the utility on another PC you have to enter your notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed.
Your notebook's product number is: 84S02EA#ABD
My apologies for not replying to your post sooner.
The forum e-mail notification system had not been working for about a week and was recently restored a few days ago.
While I did comb through the posts I replied to several times during this period, somehow, I missed your reply.

Thank you for your reply.
Yes, the notifications are a bit crazy for me too.
I can't do that with the cloud recovery software on the new laptop?
Can I do it on the old laptop with the 990 Pro and Windows 10? or does that not work?
Best regards

You're very welcome.
Yes, you can use the utility on your 16 wd0275ng notebook if it is currently working, but you will then have to remove the drive, reinstall the 990 Pro in the notebook and then boot from the USB recovery drive and follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows on the 990 Pro.
You can make the recovery media on any PC, but you cannot use it to install Windows on your Samsung 990 Pro that is installed in another PC.
That will not work because the tool will check the notebook's hardware configuration and immediately report a 'not supported on this platform error.'

Anytime.
Glad to have been of assistance.
I see from your screenshot (the C: drive has a padlock icon in it) that you have Bitlocker drive encryption enabled.
If you did not want to do that, or it was enabled by default, I highly recommend that you turn Bitlocker off as soon as possible.
The first method (windows control panel is the easiest way to do it).
How to Disable Bitlocker Encryption in Windows 11 (youtube.com)
If you want to keep Bitlocker drive encryption enabled, then make sure you back up the Bitlocker recovery key to your Microsoft account or print it out and save it in a safe place.
Without that Bitlocker recovery key, you will not be able to access any data on your hard drive if you are locked out of it.
How to backup BitLocker Recovery Key on Windows 11 (youtube.com)
You can also backup the recovery key first and then turn off Bitlocker.
