Hello,
i have been troubleshooting an issues with my laptop where the AC adapter will not charge the laptop when plugged in and turned on, when powered off battery charges normally. Troubleshooting steps performed are below. Im at a loss as to what the issue is and how to fix it at this point. I will say that for awhile uninstalling the ACPI driver and restarting would do the trick but as of 24 hours ago this does not work. This seems to be hardware/driver issue.
Considering "percussive" maintenance at this point but wanted to reach out before attempting that 🙂
Troubleshooting Steps Attemtped
-Uninstalled ACPI driver
-Updated BIOS
-Installed all Windows and HP Support Assist updates
-Ran UEFI tests on battery/AC adapter, tests came back passing
-Ran test on battery in HP Support Assist, test came back passing
-Plugged AC adapter in different location in house as well as another house
-Checked event viewer logs and only information ones existed showing kernel power source change
-Checked for physical damage to cables/jacks, other than very minor dirt (common to see).
-Checked to see if moving the AC jack a certain way would prompt it to charge, no change.

After several days and reviewing my notes on ACPI drivers I have deleted several REGEDIT keys on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> DRIVERS -> HARDWARE -> ACPI and gotten this to work after a reboot. I will say for everyone that is reading this my situation was highly unusual and while this was a hardware issue (drivers are considered hardware) I would not recommend messing with REGEDIT without doing research or in my case having the previous knowledge of how this would effect the system. I have around 10 years of enterprise service desk support so please again do not mess around with the REGEDIT as something you think is ok most likely will render the machine useless, do your research and educate yourself.

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,
Let's try to perform a system reset on the PC.
You may follow the steps suggested in this support document for - HP PCs - Resetting Your Computer (Windows 10)
For some reason, if this does not help then I would suggest you could try to use HP Cloud Recovery Tool which allows you to download recovery software to a USB drive.
If this option does not work then you can follow this link: HP PCs - Obtaining PC Recovery USB Drives or Discs Or else you may contact our HP support team to help you order a set of recovery media for your PC.
HP support team can be reached on this link.
Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help you.

As you have performed all the steps suggested and nothing has helped to resolve this issue.
This looks like a possible hardware failure with the notebook. I would recommend you contact our HP support team for further assistance.
