I have read a good few posts about laggy touchpads on HP products. i have done all the usual, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, everything up to date, done a hard reset and factory reset. Still having this issue. Did anyone manage to fix it??

Hi @tiegan2,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Touchpad lag on HP Spectre x360 laptops can be frustrating, but there are some additional steps you can try if you've already performed the basic troubleshooting. Here's a more detailed approach to resolve the issue.
Adjust Touchpad Sensitivity
- Open Settings > Devices > Touchpad.
- Under "Sensitivity," select Most Sensitive to see if it improves responsiveness.
Disable Touchpad Power Management
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click on your touchpad driver (likely "Synaptics" or "Precision Touchpad") and choose Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
Switch to the Microsoft Precision Touchpad Driver
- Check if your touchpad uses the Synaptics driver. If so, you can try switching to the Microsoft Precision Touchpad Driver:
- In Device Manager, right-click the touchpad driver and select Update Driver.
- Choose Browse my computer for drivers > Let me pick from a list.
- Select HID-compliant touchpad or Microsoft Precision Touchpad.
- Restart your laptop to apply the changes.
Disable Startup Applications
- Some startup applications can interfere with touchpad performance.
- Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc, go to the Startup tab, and disable unnecessary apps.
Check for BIOS Updates
- Visit the HP Support website and check for any available BIOS updates for your Spectre x360. Sometimes, BIOS updates include fixes for hardware-related issues like touchpad lag.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to update your BIOS.

Test in Safe Mode
- Boot into Safe Mode to rule out third-party software conflicts:
- Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- Go to the Boot tab, check Safe Boot, and select Minimal.
- Restart your laptop.
- Test the touchpad in Safe Mode. If it works fine, the issue might be caused by third-party software or drivers.
Check for Physical Issues
- Inspect the touchpad for any physical damage or dust that might affect its performance.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks so much for your replies, you have given me a few things to try beyond what I have tried already. I will try them one at a time to see if any of them solve the issue. Unfortunatley the issues come and go and its hard to know if I fixed it until I use the laptop for a while. I will report back!

Thanks, trying the first thing you suggest that I have not done -
Disable Touchpad Power Management
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click on your touchpad driver (likely "Synaptics" or "Precision Touchpad") and choose Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab and uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
- There is no power management tab under properties!!
