Hello everyone,

I am facing a strange issue with my HP Victus 15-fa2303TX laptop and I want to know if anyone else has experienced this problem or found a fix.

My Issue:

When my laptop goes into sleep mode while connected to the charger, sometimes it automatically shuts down completely after around 1 minute.

This issue mostly happens when:

  • Laptop is plugged into charger
  • Fan mode is set to Max Fan / Performance mode
  • Laptop enters automatic sleep

After around a minute in sleep, the laptop turns off completely instead of staying asleep.

Things I Observed:

  • This problem does not happen all the time
  • It seems related to charger + max fan mode
  • I normally use the laptop in Quiet/Eco mode, and the issue is less noticeable there
  • Fast Startup is already turned OFF
  • I have already installed all Windows updates
  • Drivers and BIOS are updated (as much as HP Support Assistant shows)
  • I have also tried a system reset, but the problem still exists

Additional Question:

Could this be related to:

  • BIOS issue?
  • Sleep/Modern Standby bug?
  • HP power management or fan control?
  • Charger-related behavior?

Has anyone with an HP Victus experienced something similar? Any solution would be appreciated.

Laptop Model: HP Victus 15-fa2303TX

Thank you!

Hi @viratkohli,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that your HP Victus 15-fa2303TX Automatically Shuts Down During Sleep.

Here are the most likely causes and fixes:

Check BIOS settings

Enter BIOS (F10 at boot).

Look for Modern Standby or Sleep Mode options. If available, switch to S3 sleep instead of Modern Standby.

Update BIOS and drivers manually

Don’t rely only on HP Support Assistant. Visit the Official HP® Support and check for the latest BIOS/firmware.

Adjust power plan

Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Advanced settings.

Under Sleep > Allow hybrid sleep, set to Off.

Under Power buttons and lid > Sleep button action, ensure it’s set to Sleep, not Hibernate.

Test without Max Fan mode

Switch to Balanced or Quiet mode in HP Omen Gaming Hub before letting the laptop sleep.

If the issue disappears, it’s likely a bug in Max Fan sleep handling.

Disable Modern Standby (advanced)

Run powercfg -a in Command Prompt.

If Modern Standby is active, you can force S3 sleep via registry tweaks (advanced users only).

Check Event Viewer logs

Look under System > Kernel-Power events.

If you see “Critical – Event ID 41” after sleep, it confirms an improper shutdown triggered by firmware/power state.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your response.

I will test the suggested steps. However, I want to add one observation:

The issue mostly happens when the laptop is plugged in and using Max Fan/Performance mode. In Quiet/Eco mode, it seems less frequent.

Fast Startup is already disabled, Windows and drivers are updated, and I have already tried reset once.

I will also check Event Viewer (Kernel-Power Event ID 41) and run powercfg -a.

Could this be a firmware/BIOS issue related to sleep handling in Max Fan mode on HP Victus?

HP Recommended

Yes, this is likely a firmware/BIOS issue related to Modern Standby (S0) power state handling on the HP Victus, particularly when Max Fan mode is active.

Thank you for the clarification.

I would like to know if there is any proper fix or recommended workaround for this issue.

Here is what I have already tried:

- Fast Startup is disabled

- Windows is fully updated

- Drivers and BIOS are updated (including HP Support Assistant updates)

- I already tried a system reset once

- The issue mainly happens when the laptop is plugged in and Max Fan/Performance mode is enabled during sleep

- In Quiet/Eco mode, the issue seems much less frequent

Could you please suggest what I should try next to properly fix this? Also, is there any known BIOS/firmware fix planned for HP Victus models related to Modern Standby (S0) sleep behavior?

Thank you for your response.

Recommended Next Steps

BIOS settings: Enter BIOS (F10 at boot). If available, switch from Modern Standby (S0) to S3 sleep. This avoids the unstable S0 handling.

Manual BIOS update: Don’t rely only on HP Support Assistant. Download the latest BIOS directly from Official HP® Support for your exact model (15‑fa2303TX).

Power plan adjustments:

Disable Hybrid Sleep under Advanced Power Options.

Ensure the Sleep button action is set to Sleep, not Hibernate.

Test without Max Fan mode: Before putting the laptop to sleep, switch to Balanced or Quiet mode in HP Omen Gaming Hub. This reduces shutdown frequency.

Thank you for the guidance.

I checked my BIOS settings, but there is no option available to switch from Modern Standby (S0) to S3 sleep on my HP Victus 15-fa2303TX.

I have already:

- Disabled Fast Startup

- Disabled Hybrid Sleep

- Updated Windows completely

- Installed the latest BIOS/drivers

- Tried a system reset once

I also noticed that the issue mainly happens only when:

- The laptop is plugged into the charger

- Max Fan/Performance mode is active

- The laptop enters sleep

During gaming and normal usage, the laptop works perfectly without crashes or shutdowns.

Since S3 sleep is not available in BIOS on my model, could you please suggest what the proper HP-recommended fix or workaround is? Also, is this a known firmware/Modern Standby (S0) issue on HP Victus models, especially with Max Fan mode?

HI @viratkohli,

Thank you for your response.

Here are some Workarounds. Kindly check:

Switch fan mode before sleep

In HP Omen Gaming Hub, set fan mode to Balanced or Quiet before letting the laptop sleep.

Users report the shutdown issue is far less frequent in these modes.

Manual BIOS/driver update

Don’t rely only on HP Support Assistant. Download the latest BIOS and chipset drivers directly from Official HP® Support.

Some users found stability improvements after manual updates.

Power plan adjustments

Control Panel → Power Options → Advanced settings.

Under Sleep, ensure Hybrid Sleep = Off.

Under Power buttons and lid, confirm Sleep button action = Sleep (not Hibernate).

I hope this will help.
