My HP Victus won't boot up properly. When I am able to reboot it, it only runs for a few min. I cleaned the fans really good, thinking it was overheating, but that didn't seem to help.

Hi @NikkiM789,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

It sounds like your HP Victus laptop might be experiencing a hardware issue, possibly related to power or internal components. Since cleaning the fans didn't resolve the problem, here are a few steps you can try:

1. Check for Overheating

  • Even after cleaning the fans, overheating could still be an issue if the thermal paste on the CPU/GPU is dried out. Consider reapplying thermal paste or having a professional check it.
  • Make sure the vents are not blocked and that the laptop is on a hard, flat surface for optimal airflow.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to perform a hard reset. Then, turn the laptop on again.

3. Check the Battery and Power Adapter

  • If the laptop runs fine on battery but not when plugged in (or vice versa), the issue could be with the battery or the power adapter. Try using a different adapter if possible.
  • Remove the battery (if removable) and run the laptop only on AC power to see if it behaves differently.

4. Run Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart the laptop and press the F2 key repeatedly to enter the HP Diagnostics tool.
  • Run a system diagnostics test to check for hardware failures.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @NikkiM789,

Please find the remaining steps below.

5. Update Drivers and BIOS

  • Ensure all drivers, particularly the graphics and chipset drivers, are up to date.
  • Check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop model on the HP website and follow the instructions to update it.

6. Check for Malware or Software Issues

  • Boot into Safe Mode and see if the laptop runs more stably. If it does, the problem might be related to a software or driver conflict.
  • Run a full malware scan using reliable antivirus software.

7. Inspect the RAM and Storage

  • Faulty RAM or a failing hard drive/SSD could cause frequent reboots or startup issues. If you're comfortable doing so, try reseating the RAM and storage drive.

8. Check Event Viewer for Errors

  • Open the Windows Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc) and look for critical errors in the "System" logs. This can give clues about what is causing the system to crash.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, there could be a deeper hardware problem (like a failing motherboard or power delivery component), which might require repair.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
