Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-d1 (53F49AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

So essentially, even when I set my Victus to standard mode (performance is too loud) the wattage for the GPU will hit 60 and the fans will spin up, but after about a minute or two it will immediately drop down to 29 watts and stay there. That's the wattage value for silent mode, which is leaving a lot of performance on the table. From eyeballing it with the Nvidia performance overlay and Omen gaming hub itself, the CPU hits a max of 85 and GPU a max of 71, and then of course after dropping wattage the temps come down as well.

So what is this weird error that is causing this automatic throttling down to 30 watts? My power settings were set to balanced, yes the notebook is plugged in, Omen gaming hub is on standard. But even if it were thermal throttling instead of dropping to like 45w or something (which is a nice middle ground) it goes all the way to the lowest TDP of 29. I updated the bios and nvidia drivers to the latest, all windows updates are installed as well.

That did not solve the issue at all. The only updates that were available to me were the mediatek bluetooth and wireless adapters. I had already manually updated the bios previously, and my NVIDIA drivers are also up to date. I used the HP support assistant to run performance optimisation, operating system checks, as well as hardware diagnostics.

Placing Omen gaming hub into performance mode does maintain the GPU at around 70-74 watts but sees an accompanying heat and fan noise increase that is fairly significant. In standard mode, the GPU still throttles down to 29 watts after the GPU hits 71 degrees.
