Hi,

I’m having an issue with the integrated webcam on my HP Victus laptop. The webcam used to work perfectly before, but now it is no longer detected at all by Windows or Linux.

Current symptoms:

  • Camera app says no camera detected

  • Webcam does not appear under Cameras/Imaging Devices in Device Manager

  • Initially the camera only appeared as a hidden device

  • It also previously showed something similar to a “Camera DFU Device”

  • Linux also does not detect the webcam, which makes me think this is not just a Windows driver issue

Things I have already tried:

  • Checked all Windows privacy/camera settings

  • Checked BIOS for camera enable/disable options (none available)

  • Reset BIOS settings to defaults

  • Reflashed the latest BIOS again

  • Full power drain / 20+ second power button reset

  • Windows Update driver scan

  • Installed/reinstalled HP drivers

  • Installed Intel IPU6 camera drivers

  • Installed Sunplus firmware package

  • Tried Realtek camera firmware update utility (tool reported “No RT Camera”)

  • Uninstalled hidden camera and DFU devices from Device Manager and rescanned hardware

  • Tested in Linux live USB to rule out Windows corruption

  • Checked USB/device logs and found previous camera-related entries:

    • USB\VID_30C9&PID_0069&MI_00

    • USB\VID_30C9&PID_0069&MI_02

From my research, these IDs appear related to HP/Realtek camera hardware interfaces.

Because:

  • the issue may have started sometime after BIOS updates,

  • I previously saw DFU/recovery-style camera entries,

  • and other HP users online reported corrupted webcam firmware after BIOS updates,

I suspect the webcam firmware may have become corrupted or the camera may be stuck in a DFU/recovery state.

I found reports of HP support providing special webcam firmware recovery tools such as:
Realtek_CamFWUpdateTool_HP_*.exe

Does HP have:

  • an official webcam firmware recovery utility,

  • camera reflash tool,

  • or any OEM diagnostic utility for HP Victus camera firmware recovery?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @faiq-shahzad,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

HP does not publicly provide webcam firmware recovery tools for Victus laptops.

If your camera is stuck in DFU mode after a BIOS update, the only way to reflash the firmware is through HP’s internal utilities (e.g., Realtek_CamFWUpdateTool), which are distributed only via HP Support or service centers.

Please refer to this link to run HP hardware diagnostics.

Boot into HP UEFI Diagnostics and run component tests on the webcam.

If the test fails or shows “No device found,” it confirms firmware corruption.

I hope this helps

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Hi @Kuroi_Kenshi,

Thank you for your response.

I ran the HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics tests as suggested. However, under the Component Tests section, the webcam does not appear as an available option at all, whereas the support article shows that there should normally be a “Webcam Connection Test” present.

Based on your message, this seems to confirm that the webcam firmware is likely corrupted or the device is stuck in a DFU/recovery state.

Could you please help provide the appropriate internal tools/utilities that may allow recovery or reflashing of the webcam firmware, such as the Realtek camera firmware recovery/update tools mentioned earlier?

I work remotely, and having access to my webcam is extremely crucial for my job, so resolving this issue is a high priority for me.

Thank you again for your assistance.

Hi @faiq-shahzad,

Thanks for confirming the UEFI diagnostics results, the fact that the Webcam Connection Test does not even appear strongly indicates that the camera firmware is corrupted or the module is stuck in DFU/recovery mode.
