Hello everyone, so something weird just happened, and the affected laptop is not mine but belongs to my friend.
We were simply chatting and he downloaded a game, but when he tried to start it, his HP Victus shut off without warning, and the game is not too heavy so we are not sure if it was a mere coincidence or not.
Anyways, we did the following tests to check if it could turn back on:
- Pressing the power button for 5 seconds (tried while it was plugged to the power and also unplugged)
- Tried the same test but with different times (10, 30, 60 and until it would turn on, which did not happen)
- Tried the same test but after leaving it unplugged it for 30 minutes
- Unplugging the battery and plugging the power, but there is no LED that shows the power nor did the laptop turn on
- Plugging the battery again, plugging the power, and retrying the power button tests again
- Pressing the power button for 10 seconds, leaving it for 10 seconds, and trying to turn it on again (tried while plugged and unplugged to the power)
- Using the same power adapter for another HP laptop to rule out whether it works or not, and the other PC works just fine
During all these tests, we detected no signs of life from the laptop: no leds, no fans, nothing at all.
For now my friend will leave it unplugged for a while and see if it comes back to life, I am not sure what happened: could it be an electrical issue? I hope the motherboard did not burn or anything but that could also be the case.
Are there any additional troubleshooting steps we can try out? Or should we contact the HP support?
Thank you very much.

@Cherzeeee, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the HP Victus 15-fa1000 suffered a sudden power failure, which could be due to various issues, including motherboard failure, power delivery issues, or even a short circuit. Since you've already tried the essential troubleshooting steps, let's go deeper:
Further Troubleshooting Steps:
Hard Reset with CMOS Battery Removal (if possible)
- Since you already tried a power reset, the next step is to remove the CMOS battery (a small coin-cell battery on the motherboard).
- Disconnect the main battery and AC adapter first.
- If possible, locate and remove the CMOS battery for about 5–10 minutes.
- Reinstall it, reconnect the power, and try turning the laptop on.
Inspect for Short Circuit or Burn Marks
- Shine a flashlight into the charging port and USB-C port (if available) to check for burn marks or signs of damage.
- If comfortable, remove the bottom panel and check the motherboard for burnt components.
Check Power Button and Internal Cables
- If the power button is faulty, the laptop won’t turn on at all.
- If you have access to the internal components, try disconnecting and reconnecting the power button cable.
- Alternatively, try to power it on via the keyboard (if the model supports power-on via the keyboard).
External Display Test (for Motherboard Check)
- Connect an external monitor via HDMI to check if there’s a response.
- If the laptop’s internal display failed, it could appear "dead" even though it's running.
Check for Power Drain Issues
- If the laptop received a sudden power surge, its protection circuits may have locked it in a safety state.
- Try leaving it unplugged for at least 12 hours, then retry turning it on.
Last Resort: Try a Different Battery (if removable)
- If possible, try a known-working battery from another HP Victus.
- Some gaming laptops refuse to power on with a faulty or dead battery, even when plugged in.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
