I have this issue with HP "OMEN 15-en0xxx Laptop (en0xxx)" gaming laptop.

The laptop makes a annoying electrical buzz noise from the left side (where you usually connect power adapter) and its very noticeable when you are in quiet room or so. This happens especially if a video is being played. The laptop is just 4 year old and i didn't notice the buzz until now. I ignored it for a while thinking its from fans.

One guy recorded it with his phone (with phone microphone under plug in adapter; Not mine) and he uploaded it on YouTube, you can hear it there, the link is: https://youtu.be/LOWl2AQ2q0A . Also he boost audio record volume with "audiotrimmer.com" on Extreme setting to hear more clearly.

Will my laptop damage in time (it's in danger, short circuit or bad cable isolation, or some crack of a power component on the motherboard where adapter is plugged in) more importantly, how I can make this annoying sound hear no more (It's frustrating and seems sometimes I can hear it more loudly)!

Hi @TG_2020,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a common issue known as coil whine, which can occur in laptops, especially when they're under load (like playing videos or games). Coil whine is generally not harmful to your laptop, but it can be annoying.

Here are some potential causes and solutions:

Power Adapter: Sometimes the power adapter itself can produce noise. Try using a different adapter, if available, to see if the buzzing persists.

Grounding Issue: Ensure that your laptop is plugged into a properly grounded outlet. Sometimes using a power strip with surge protection can help reduce noise.

Fan or Components: While you suspect the noise comes from the left side, it could also be the fans or other components vibrating. Make sure the vents are clean and free from dust.

Performance Settings: Adjust your laptop's power settings. Sometimes lowering the performance profile can reduce the load and associated coil whine.

BIOS/Drivers Update: Update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

- Please install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps.

go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

Hardware Inspection: If you're comfortable opening your laptop, you could check for any loose components or cables. If not, consider taking it to a professional.

Will it cause damage?

Typically, coil whine won't lead to damage or short circuits, but if you notice other symptoms (like overheating, performance issues, or physical damage), it would be worth having it checked at a repair center.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
