OMEN by HP 17-cb0005na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Would really appreciate some advice. I have a 2019 Omen laptop 17-cb0005na which has a 1 TB hd storage (7200 ram sata). Unfortunately this is in the workshop and may be unrepairable. I am looking at buying a new Omen laptop as I would like to install the actual hard drive to the new laptop. I am looking at buying the 17-ck1502na but I see in the specs that it comes with 1Tb of SSD but no hd. Does anyone know if the laptop will have the cavity space to fit my old 1 Tb hd storage into this new Omen laptop?

You're very welcome.

Hopefully it will since the Windows product key is in the BIOS.

Now, if you have problems with activation, change the installed key to the OEM product key in the new notebook's BIOS.

Naturally you won't know any of this until you install the hard drive in the replacement notebook.

So, if Windows indicates it needs to be activated after you install the hard drive in the new PC, download and install the free Showkey plus app from the Microsoft Store.

ShowKeyPlus - Microsoft Store Apps

When you run the app, it should show an Installed key and an OEM key.

If the installed key is different than the OEM key, change the installed key to the OEM key in the PC settings menu and Windows should activate.

Hopefully, you won't even need to do this but forewarned is forearmed.

Hi:

The service manual on the model series' support page indicates no support or available parts to add a 2.5" drive.

Nowadays, PC manufacturers are moving away from 2.5" mechanical hard drives and installing the much faster M.2 NVMe SSD's.

This also allows the manufacturers to continue to make notebooks even thinner and lighter.

Some HP notebooks now come with support for two M.2 NVMe SSD's.

Thanks Paul that's really helpful to know thank you. I'll avoid buying a new Omen laptop if it means i can't install my hard drive into it.

However, ive managed to find a HP reconditioned laptop with exactly the same specs as the laptop that is unrepairable however its just the MPN number are different. Will the MPN make the transfer of my hard drive into this laptop incompatible or are these numbers just for identification? Thanks again.
