Hello, my HP victus laptop has been blue screening a lot recently, I dont remember the error text, but next time i see it i will inform. I ran the memory diagnostic, and it came back with "hardware problems were detected. contact the computer manufacturer." and later with a notification, "Your computer has a memory problem. contact the manufacturer." and under the blue screen view tool, the driver is "ntoskrnl.exe"Screenshot 2026-01-28 154333.png

Hi @Cannedcool,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that your HP Victus laptop is experiencing frequent blue screens and you suspect a memory-related issue, follow these steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Note the Blue Screen Error Message:

  • When a blue screen appears, take note of any error message or code displayed. This information will be useful for further diagnosis.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect all external peripherals and shut down your laptop.
  • Remove the battery and unplug the power cable.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and power cable, then turn on the laptop.

Reset BIOS to Default:

  • Access the BIOS settings by restarting the laptop and pressing the "Esc" key until the Setup menu appears.
  • Select "BIOS Setup" and reset the BIOS settings to default using the on-screen instructions.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Restart your laptop and quickly press "Esc" followed by "F2" to open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu.
  • Run the "System Test" to check for hardware issues. Use "Memory Test" specifically to diagnose any memory errors.

Update BIOS & Drivers

  • Go to HP Support → Drivers & Downloads for your Victus model.
  • Install the latest BIOS update and chipset drivers from HP Website.
  • This ensures memory management is stable.

Reseat RAM

  • Power off the laptop and disconnect the charger.
  • Open the RAM compartment (usually on the underside).
  • Remove the RAM sticks carefully, then reseat them firmly back into their slots.
  • Boot up and test again.

Use Windows System Restore:

  • If the problem persists, perform a system restore to revert the laptop to a previous configuration where it was functioning correctly.

Take care and have an amazing day!
