Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
HP notebooks include a BIOS setting that allows you to keep the fan on constantly when the notebook is plugged in. Using this setting called "Fan Always On" -- allows you to test your notebook's fan.
Let's try this method:
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F10 key to enter bios.
- Next: use the arrow keys to navigate to "Fan Always on when A/C Power," then press "Enter" to enable it. Press the "F10" key to save the setting and exit the system BIOS.
Suggested HP community steps:
There is a pretty famous app called SpeedFan: http://download.cnet.com/SpeedFan/3000-2094_4-10067444.html
This will work on some laptops to give you temperatures of major chips and fan speeds.
A fan diagnostic is built into the BIOS and if the fan.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Both Fans work when a certain temp threshold is met.. You can force the CPU fan to run all the time in the BIOS (FAN ALWAYS ON FUNCTION) but this wont change the temp threshold it ramps up the fan as its stepped not progressive.
The GPU fan is 100% Controlled by the BIOS you cannot force it to run all the time like the CPU and it will only ramp up with GPU temps, So even if your CPU is scorching hot the GPU fan will not kick in to assist the CPU fan. This is HP fault and since the fan control is hardlocked to the BIOS you cant manually control them either via software.
