HP OMEN 15-CE011DX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I just purchased this laptop, and it will arrive Monday.

With the Mini DisplayPort, and HDMI outputs, how many displays will I be able to utilize(including the laptop display)?

Thanks for any insight.

I am not certain how many monitors will work with the 150W AC power adapter.  I believe that you can no doubt use an additional two monitors without any problems at all.

I will concur, you can absolutely use both the HDMI and Mini DP ports simultaneously for monitors.

An adapter to go from Mini DP to HDMI can be used to connect another HDMI monitor.

If using a VR headset, you will need to also use the Mini DP port with an HDMI adapter to connect to the headset.

Good Luck.

Thank you for the quick replies.

If I wanted to upgrade GPU, and add an SSD in the future, are those options available(and easily performed)?

I wanted to upgrade GPU

Nope, not in a laptop. Its fixed to the board and not made to be changed.

and add an SSD

Yep, you can and an M.2 SSD but only NVMe, not M.2 Sata.

You can also remove the HDD and replace that with a 2.5 inch Sata SSD.

Its recommend to use a Samsung 951 or 961 NVMe for best compatibility.

Some users have claimed to have issues with other brand drives like Transcend, etc.

Thanks again, photoray.

Added another 8GB of RAM today.

Do you know what the difference is between the Samsung 960, and 961 SSD's?

While I had the back off, it looked as though the SSD would be installed in the area between the battery, and one of the fans?

Yes, that is the where the M.2 slot is located. Looks like you will also need to purchase a screw for it. SSD's dont come with the mounting screw usually.

You can buy a whole package of screws for the same price as one.

Yes, the 960 uses more space for overprovisioning.

You're absolutley good going with the 960, I just wouldnt spend a bunch more for a 960 Pro. Go with which ever you can get a good deal on.

The 500 GB isnt a bad deal on Amazon USA at the moment. Get as much capacity as you can afford...

Thanks for all the advice so far. This computer has met my basic performance goals. Haven't put an SSD in because of another strange anomoly.

Static discharge from my person shuts the computer completely off as soon as I touch it. Example(just now), composing email, paused to take something downstairs to my wife(wood floors), return and touch keyboard. ZAP, and it immediately goes dark.

This has happened at least a dozen times since I purchased it, and it has restarted normally everytime, except once(had a BIOS message to recover). Everytime this happens the keyboard backlights default to Off when restarted.

Is this common? Do I need to install a ground bus on the edge of my desk so I can discharge myself before I touch this thing? I've never experinced this with a desktop/laptop before.

Static from touching the laptop is shutting down the PC.

No that should not ever happen. But that series has had some early shipments that were not configured with the proper grounding attached.

You need to contact HP Support directly for a warranty issue. They will fix it.
