Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r0000 (9J119AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Few months ago, I bought this hp gaming laptop. It was fine but after 1 or 2 months later, it started freezing with white screen and buzzing noise. I didn't mind it and kept playing. Then it became so annoying. It crashed my game and chrome. It says something about driver. I seeked help from hp support and 2 months ago, someone helped with it. It worked but not for long. It started crashing again but only crashes my games and freezing my screen with buzzing noise. I need to stop this problem because it has been too long. I need help fixing it please. I don't want my problem to be solved only for a while but make it gone.

Hi @Sukhtugs,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

Freezing with a white screen and buzzing noise on an HP gaming laptop during gaming sessions often indicates hardware or driver-related issues. Since the problem recurred despite previous fixes, it’s essential to dig deeper and resolve the root cause.

Here's a step-by-step troubleshooting guide:

1. Update Graphics Drivers

  • Visit the official site for your GPU (NVIDIA/AMD):
  • Use the "Clean Install" option during the driver installation process.
  • Avoid relying solely on Windows Update for graphics drivers.

2. Disable Overlays

Overlays from applications like Discord, GeForce Experience, or Steam can cause crashes. Disable overlays for all apps:

  • Discord: Go to Settings > Overlay and turn it off.
  • GeForce Experience: Disable "In-Game Overlay" under settings.
  • Disable similar settings in Steam and other gaming platforms.

3. Monitor Temperatures

Overheating can lead to crashes. Monitor CPU and GPU temperatures.

  • If temperatures exceed 85°C, consider:
    • Cleaning the laptop vents with compressed air.
    • Using a cooling pad.
    • Ensuring the laptop is on a hard, flat surface during use.

4. Check for Corrupted Game Files

  • For Steam games: Right-click the game > Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Files.
  • For other platforms, follow their respective file integrity check processes.

5. Check Event Viewer for Error Logs

  • Open the Event Viewer (search for it in Windows).
  • Navigate to Windows Logs > System or Application.
  • Look for "Critical" or "Error" entries around the time of a crash. Note any specific drivers or processes mentioned.

6. Install Updates

-Update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

-Install all the pending updates for the Windows operating system following the below steps and let me know if that resolves the issue.

Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.

7. Run HP Diagnostics

Please follow the steps below to perform an extensive system test to confirm if the hardware is working fine.

1) Shut down the computer.

2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.

3) Press F2 once.

4) Go to the system test > extensive test

8. Test with a Different Power Plan

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Select High Performance or Balanced and test if the issue persists.

9. Disable Fast Startup

Fast Startup can sometimes cause instability:

  1. Open Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  2. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  3. Uncheck Turn on fast startup and restart.

10. Reinstall windows (if unresolved):

Click on this link to perform a recovery on your Laptop.  (Take a backup of the data before performing a recovery)

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
