OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-xf0000 (758R4AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Recently, when I boot up my HP Omen 16-xf0006nl, the fans start working normally, but after a few minutes they suddenly stop. When I go to the Omen hub, no matter what I do, the fans stay at 0 rpm even when max fan speed is selected.

Sometimes I can hear them spinnig very slowly but the hub always shows 0 RPM.

What can I do? fan not working.png

Hi @DemosX,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

It sounds like your OMEN by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop (16-xf0000 series) is experiencing an issue where the fans stop working or are running at very low speeds, even when you attempt to manually increase the fan speed using the OMEN Gaming Hub. This could be a software or hardware issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Update OMEN Gaming Hub

  • Check for Updates:
    1. Open the OMEN Gaming Hub and check for any available updates. Sometimes, software updates can fix issues related to fan control.
    2. Go to the Settings within the OMEN Gaming Hub and check if there’s a new version available. Update if necessary.

2. Update BIOS/UEFI

  • Check for BIOS Update:
    1. Visit the HP Support website and check for any available BIOS updates for your specific model (16-xf0006nl).
    2. Install any updates following the provided instructions. BIOS updates can sometimes resolve fan control issues.

3. Update System Drivers

  • Update Thermal and Chipset Drivers:
    1. Ensure that your laptop’s thermal and chipset drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website or use the HP Support Assistant.
  • Update GPU Drivers:
    1. Make sure your NVIDIA or AMD graphics drivers are up to date, as they can also influence thermal management.

4. Reset OMEN Gaming Hub Settings

  • Restore Default Settings:
    1. In the OMEN Gaming Hub, try resetting the fan and performance settings to their default state.
    2. After resetting, manually adjust the fan speed settings again to see if they respond.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @DemosX,

Please find the next steps below.

5. Check for Conflicting Software

  • Perform a Clean Boot:
    1. Boot your laptop into a clean state to rule out any software conflicts. To do this, open System Configuration (msconfig) and select Selective startup.
    2. Disable all non-Microsoft services and startup items, then restart your laptop. Check if the fans behave normally in this state.

6. Monitor System Temperatures

  • Use Third-Party Tools:
    1. Use software like HWMonitor, HWiNFO, or Core Temp to monitor the actual temperatures of your CPU and GPU.
    2. If the system temperatures are high and the fans are not responding, it indicates a potential hardware control issue.

7. Check Fan Health in BIOS/UEFI

  • Access BIOS/UEFI:
    1. Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI by pressing Esc or F10 during boot.
    2. Look for a section related to hardware monitoring or fan speed. See if the fans are being detected and if their speeds are being registered correctly.
  • Fan Diagnostic Test:
    1. If your BIOS/UEFI has a diagnostic section, run a fan diagnostic test to check the health of the fans.

8. Perform a System Reset

  • Reset System to Factory Settings:
    1. If the issue persists, consider performing a system reset to factory settings. Be sure to back up your data before doing this.

9. Inspect the Hardware

  • Physical Inspection:
    1. If you’re comfortable opening your laptop, you could inspect the fans and their connections. Ensure that they are securely connected to the motherboard.
    2. Check for any dust buildup that might be obstructing the fans, and clean them if necessary using compressed air.

If the problem persists after trying the above steps, there could be a hardware malfunction with the fan controller or the fans themselves. It might be necessary to contact HP phone support for a hardware inspection or repair.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi, Please download and install the OmenCap SDK from https://d38m3foex3csxq.cloudfront.net/SDK/sp153997.exe . Kindly close all tasks before installing the OmenCap SDK, as the PC will automatically reboot after installation.
