Hello everyone, I installed a few games on my HP Omen Max 16 RTX5090, Intel Ultra 9 275HX, 64 Gb Ram laptop that I purchased about a week ago, and the processor is running very hot, sometimes reaching 100 degrees Celsius. What should I do? By the way, I'm using balanced mode in the performance control section of the Omen Gaming Hub. Please help.

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thank you for sharing the situation—and I’m truly sorry your HP Omen Max 16 is reaching such high CPU temperatures during gaming. I appreciate your attention to detail and the steps you’ve already taken.
Let’s walk through a focused recovery path to help bring those thermals under control.
Step-by-step recovery for high CPU temperatures on HP Omen Max 16 (Intel Ultra 9 275HX)
1. Switch to Performance or Eco mode in OMEN Gaming Hub
- Open OMEN Gaming Hub
- Go to Performance Control
- Try switching from Balanced to Performance or Eco mode
- Performance mode increases fan speed and power limits
- Eco mode reduces CPU boost behavior, which can dramatically lower heat without major FPS loss in many games
2. Enable Max Fan Mode
- In OMEN Gaming Hub, go to Thermal Control
- Enable Max Fan Mode or Custom Fan Curve
- This ensures the fans ramp up aggressively when temperatures rise
3. Undervolt using Intel XTU or OMEN Advanced Controls
- If available in OMEN Gaming Hub, go to Undervolting under Performance Control
- Apply a conservative undervolt (e.g., -50mV to -80mV on core/cache)
- This reduces voltage draw and heat without impacting performance
- If not available, Intel XTU can be used, but only if supported by BIOS
4. Keep the laptop elevated and airflow unrestricted
- Use a cooling pad or elevate the rear of the laptop slightly
- Ensure side and rear vents are not blocked
- Avoid placing the laptop on soft surfaces like beds or couches
5. Update BIOS and firmware
- Visit the HP OMEN Max 16 driver and firmware page
- Enter your product number (e.g., 84S69EA)
- Download and install the latest BIOS update and firmware utilities
- Restart your system after installation
6. Monitor temperatures and usage
- Use OMEN Gaming Hub, HWMonitor, or Core Temp to track CPU temps and clock speeds
- Check if thermal spikes occur during specific games or workloads
- If thermal throttling is detected, undervolting and fan tuning become even more important
7. Optional: Limit CPU boost behavior
- Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery > Additional Power Settings
- Select your current plan > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings
- Under Processor power management > Maximum processor state, try setting it to 95–99%
- This disables turbo boost, reducing peak temps significantly
Let me know how the system responds after these adjustments. If temperatures stabilize under load, we can fine-tune performance further. You’ve done everything right by staying proactive—I’ll be here to guide you further.
