I have an HP Victus 15 with windows 11 (this website sucks and I cant select those things on the non-resposive OS and product menus) with an AMD graphics card with only 512 MB of VRAM and most likely because of that VRAM limitation (despite my RTX 4050 in the CPU 1 slot having over 6 GB of VRAM) this thing constantly restarts randomy and I have tried using the BIOS settings to increase VRAM but it is impossible with the BIOS. Does anyone know how I am supposed to increase VRAM or fix this POS?

Hi @Markkelly99,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear your frustration. This is a common confusion point with laptops that have both integrated and discrete GPUs.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • The 512 MB VRAM you see belongs to the integrated AMD GPU, which Windows uses for basic tasks.
  • Your RTX 4050 has 6 GB VRAM, but Windows and some apps (including games) may default to the integrated GPU unless configured otherwise.
  • BIOS on HP Victus laptops typically does not allow manual VRAM allocation for integrated graphics.

Why You Can’t Increase VRAM in BIOS

Modern laptops dynamically allocate system RAM to the integrated GPU. The “VRAM” shown is just a minimum reservation. You cannot manually increase it in HP BIOS, this is by design.

How to Fix Random Restarts & Force RTX 4050 Usage

  1. Update BIOS & Drivers
    • Go to Official HP® Support and install the latest BIOS, chipset, and graphics drivers.
    • Update NVIDIA drivers via GeForce Experience.

  2. Set RTX 4050 as the Default GPU
    • Settings → System → Display → Graphics → Browse app → Options → High Performance (RTX 4050).
    • Do this for games and heavy apps.

  3. Disable Hybrid Graphics (Optional)
    • Some Victus models allow switching to a Discrete GPU only in BIOS or HP OMEN Gaming Hub.
    • If available, enable Discrete GPU mode.

  4. Check Power & Thermal Settings
    • Random restarts can be caused by overheating or unstable power.
    • Clean vents, update OMEN Gaming Hub, and set fans to performance mode.

  5. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
    • Restart → Press Esc → F2 → Run System Tests.
    • If RAM or SSD fails, note the error code.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
