Hi @akadngo4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP laptop's lid/hall sensor may be stuck, causing the device to think the lid is closed and staying in sleep mode. Here’s how to address that gently and effectively:

Why It's Happening

The hall effect sensor (also known as a lid sensor) detects when the lid is closed to put the laptop to sleep. Overheating or component wear can cause it to misfire, making your laptop "stay asleep" even when the lid is open.

What You Can Do

1. Update BIOS and Drivers

Sometimes a firmware update can improve sensor accuracy:

  • Open HP Support Assistant
  • Check for and install any BIOS, chipset, or firmware updates
  • Restart your laptop

2. Enable “Power On When Lid Is Opened” (if available)

Some models let you ignore the sensor via BIOS:

  1. Restart and press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS.
  2. Go to System Configuration → Boot Options.
  3. Enable Power On When Lid Is Opened (if it's listed).
  4. Save changes and restart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
