I originally got this laptop around 2015, at some point the battery started overheating and expanding, so I removed it, but haven’t gotten a replacement as I was fine hard-lined.
I recently wanted to practice linux, so I made a bootable usb image and used Ubuntu and Linux Mint. At this point I haven’t had many problems, but when I tried to return to windows I realized that my installation must have reformatted my windows hard drive.
I still had linux so I tried to create a bootable windows usb, and when I was updating the drivers, the linux os failed on a dependency for the boot file.
Now that I have no working os or bootable usb’s, I tried hp sparekey, system recovery, and uefi. Hp sparekey did nothing, system recovery just refreshes the bluscreen and does nothing, and uefi just shuts down my pc fully.
Every single time I power on my PC, my bios settings get reset, along with my date and time. I believe this might be a cmos problem but my model doesn’t contain a cmos battery. I’m planning on getting a replacement battery finally as this should solve that issue, but still with no OS.
My problem is that it worked just fine without a battery. So why aren’t my USB’s working? Is it something I’m doing wrong? Is this still salvageable?

Unless I am mistaken, your product ID is 1KV79UA#ABA and you have cloud recovery
Go to the below site and enter your product ID including the 3 characters after the # character
If you have cloud recovery you can restore your system using a 32gb flash.
It may take an hour or more to create the recovery USB.
https://d34z73bbtpzgej.cloudfront.net/
Before restoring, you need to set the BIOS to factory default.
Tap the ESC key after powering on to run diagnostics. Press F2 to enter diagnostics.
Do not allow any updates or install if disk or memory fail, especially a BIOS update.
If diagnostic pass then enter the BIOS, press F9 or whatever key sets default. Enable secure boot and set time to local time. Only Linux uses GMT. DO NOT USE GMT. Press F10 to exit and save.
Install win10 (or 11) using that cloud recovery USB.
Upgrade to 11 if you want.
The part number of your battery is
| 917724-855 | Assembly-battery 4C 70Wh 4.55Ah LI SR |
To verify the battery part number go to the below site and enter your serial number
