i've been having non stop issues with this laptop. it was a gift from a friend, that also expierenced the same issues as i have.
Long story short, is the battery that came with the device died, so we purchased a new one that was supposed to be the exact same as the original SR04XL, this one is a SR04 not XL but, the specs are identical.
NOW the current issue i'm running into is, when trying to boot up, it gives me the loading dial dots, and then just freezes. it does this almost every boot. IF i can get into windows, i log in, and it works for all of a few mins and then windows locks up and everything becoms unresponsive. Because of this issue, the BIOS became corrupted. i updated to F17 Rev.A it worked for a while, then became unresponsive, so i tried to reflash again, and it seems even more issues are occuring. The same exact issues. i've tried reinstalling different OS, fresh Clean install, and even drive replacement. I've run the component tests, and it passed with flying colors. it's stable as long as i don't try to boot into an OS, once that happens, all of it goes to crap. anyone else having any issues? or could the battery not being XL be the direct cause? i can't seem to purchase a replacement from HP but if any others would work, i'd greatly appreciate being pointed into the right direction.

Hello @GeminiProject
Did your friend have this issue prior to the battery going out or was it only after the replacement?
You've done quite a bit already, the only thing I can think of is to disconnect the battery and see if the issue continues with only using the power cord. I have a feeling its not the battery, but you could try it to see.

Well he had the same issues before and after, so he gave it to me so i could fix it and use it. I can't seem to figure this out. Even without the battert the same issues occur. I wonder if a bios rollback would work, but i can't seem to find any previous versions available.

HP bios's dont roll back now, like they used to. I dont know if yours will but usually they wont.
Its not a battery issue then. IF the freezing issue happens even with you installing a new drive and fressh OS install, sounds like issues with the motherboard itself.

Most likely yes. There might be something on the board a good repair shop could fix. But other than that, replacing the motherboard or the costs to repair it are not going to be worth it. You would be better off getting a new system.
